Almost 70% of the people that has migraine headaches is found to be women. It’s known to be because of their hormone levels. The cause of the headaches is when the blood vessels in the scalp starts to swell.

There are a number of things that can cause these headaches. Migraine headaches are the worst kind of headaches a person can have. Usually one of these headaches will occur on just one side of the head, hardly ever do these happen on both sides of the head.

Once the headaches begin some medication should be taken to get it stopped before it turns into a full blown, intense, throbbing heart beat pain. A person has about 10 to 30 minutes at the most to do all they can to get it to stop.

This time period is called the aura stage. Some have said caffeine will stop them. Migraine headaches are known to last up to 5 days with vomiting if not treated and this could be very dangerous.

Here I have listed several things to do if you feel a headache is coming on. Doing these things could avoid migraine headaches.

You need to try and find out what is causing your headaches. Try and remember what it was you have been eating the last 2 days and see if you eat it again does it come back again.

Try and not get all stressed out. This can cause one to come on easily. Relax when you feel it coming on. Remember you have this aura time to get it stopped.

Take some kind of medication for headaches or pain, this should help some. If you end up going to the doctor ask him about beta blockers or something to take before your headaches start. There is a shot he can give also that helps take the headache away.

Lay in a dark room with a cold cloth on your forehead. Stay away from all lights.

Have a complete check-up to make sure you have no tumors. Have a CT (computed tomography) scan  done.

It has been known that when men have these headaches a lot of them have strokes. Seek medical attention if it has not stopped the first day it happens.
