Bad news for Sarah Palin who as Sanjay Jha on NP highlighted has a penchant for a tan. The multi-million dollar tanning industry has produced various reports over the last few years claiming that it is possible with the right tanning bed to get a 'safe tan' but this latest report claims that there is no such thing as a safe tan. Palin bought herself a state of the art tanning bed in 2007 just after declaring the month of May 'Skin cancer awareness month.

There is no such thing as a safe tan, according to skin cancer experts.

Although some advice says that avoiding sunburn is crucial, researchers have concluded that any tan is risky, whether from sunshine or sunbed.

The UK and US scientists said there was solid evidence that tanning and cancer both start with DNA damage from ultraviolet (UV) rays.

They called for a ban on children using sunbeds, and any publicity claiming sunbeds were a safer option.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with some estimates of more than 100,000 cases a year.
