Barry Artiste Op/Ed

A Winnipeg Judge today will rule whether Murderer Vince Li who beheading a young bus passenger and proceeded to eat him will be held criminally responsible for his actions.  If found not guilty, which many feel this judge will rule, will see Vince Li be sent to a hospital for treatment and possibily out on parole and back on our streets in 10 years if treatment is successful.  Though it is rare this guy will ever be released back into the public, the letter of the law may say otherwise.  The mother of the beheading victim vows to her last breath to ensure this never happens.

WINNIPEG — Carol deDelley is prepared to watch her son's killer walk out of court Thursday headed for a hospital, not a prison cell. But the grieving mother is vowing to do everything possible to make sure Vincent Li never tastes freedom again.

"I am absolutely terrified of him and his capabilities. I think he'd do it again," deDelley said Wednesday after hearing a second straight day of disturbing court testimony.

Li's fate is now in the hands of Queen's Bench Justice John Scurfield, who has reserved his decision until 10 a.m. Thursday local time.

Are there not places for the criminally insane?  Does it have to be one or the other?  I wouldn't want to be an inmate/patient, wherever this guy goes!

Barry Artiste

I agree Blue. and reading the past stories on this guy, makes one wonder why he was walking around with a friggin huge Butcher Knife when he was sane!

Blue Crush

It's live on CTVnewsnet right now, he's been found not criminally responsible.  They are saying he's going to be in a "very secure setting," but not a prison, and treated, to maybe someday emerge from this "phychotic disorder."

Not secure enough for any rational being left in Canada or in the US, IMO. Obviously the judge doesn't fit that bill.

Thanks Blue for the update!

obviously because a man commits an evil insane act of murder, right away the words (psychiatrist and disorder) are presented on his behalf. Its the answer for everything evil related these days. "mental illness" someone needs some expensive psycho analyzing before society can except him once again. NO don't release him back into society, YES shoot the mad animal and put him and society out of its misery.

No I,m with the mother of the victim.  she is right to seek proper justice for the sake of her sons memory alone, As for mental illness it should not be played down,  this man may well be cured tho doubtful. He should be locked up for life. God love Carol and give her the strength to fight on. For the loss of her beloved son is a sad burden to bare.

He should be locked up for the rest of his life in such a way that he can't hurt other inmates nor can he hurt the caretakers who have to deal with him on a daily basis.

I don't know how insane he is. I would like to read reports. Did he hear voices? Is he a paranoid schizophrenic?

1
Barry Artiste

A voice told him that God told him to kill his victim, eat his flesh and decapitate him. Certainly anyone who believed this and committed this horrendous act is truely insane. But then are not gang members who indiscriminately shoot people just as insane taking a life with criminal intent, no less horrible as someone dies as a result.  THere was a case in the states a decade ago where a man strangled a child to death, his defence? Low Blood Sugar!  Judge bought it, thanks to a legal aid team from some welfare area, Must be nice to get off with a lesser sentence cause you were too poor to buy a candy bar.!

Blue Crush

Roy, he was not only diagnosed with schizophrenia, he was diagnosed before becoming a Canadian citizen!

"The attack was sudden and came as Li caught a glimpse of the sunlight and heard God's voice telling him that McLean was a threat,"
Dr. Rootenberg testified. "The voice said, `Do it now ... If you don't, he's going to kill you.'"

Here's an accounting of his life and the events on the bus, appropriately called "Raise A Little Hell." - it comes with an advisory, as it has some pretty gruesome details.

Wasn't our Liberal Government so Precious to allow the mentally ill to immigrate to this country, I am sure Mr. Li voted Liberal for a chance to come to Canada and the Liberal Party wrapped themselves all warm and cuddly into their Canadian Flag on their Immigration Policy! Thanks Federal Liberals, I am sure the victims family will ensure nary a Liberal Vote will be placed by them or their friends in the future!

The idea that Li could ever be released back into the general population is highly distressing. Obviously, he is ill and, therefore, not criminally responsible.  However, the nature of his illness is such that he poses an extreme and unacceptable risk to the rest of society.  The justice system should be able to deal with him humanely, but in a way that protects the rest of society.  As it is, he is going to be evaluated yearly to see if he is fit for release.  This is completely unacceptable.

Yeah, well wait in a few years, when Li will be miraculously cured, thanks to Drugs, then Lord be praised, he will announce he would like Parole, of course, if a day goes by that he forgets his drugs, but remembers to pack a Huge Honkin Butcher Knife and Bus Pass, god help the passengers.

Criminally insane, those responsible for letting run loose, also responsible.

Barry Artiste

Betcha if Vincent Li committed this crime against a Liberal MP, Li would not be seeing the light of day!

First off anyone saying he should be shot or hung should be expelled out of our country Capital Punishment is for those living in the dark ages so go join the American Military or go live in Texas if you believe in that archaic brand of "justice".

It is a very tough issue here but what people don't seem to read into is that you don't carry around a big hunting knife unless you are already crazy!  It's not like he was completely sane then with the snap of a finger became completely insane.  He is a paranoid schizophrenic, and thus, carries with him very real and terrifying thoughts that there is always someone or some unexplainable thing that is out to destroy him.  Depending on the extremity of your schizophrenia you can have different levels of psychotic episodes.

I've said it before and I say it again, for the public's safety he needs to be cared for by the government in a facility for mental health permanently until they find an outright cure for these kinds of psychotic episodes.  This doesn't mean releasing him to the public so that he can forget to take his medication and have a relapse.  He needs at least 2 people with him 24/7 to make sure his medication is administered whether he wants it or not.  Until the government is willing to fund these kinds of systems he should stay in their care for the protection of the public.

This is the cause that Tim's mom should be fighting for.  You need to fight for a cure for this disease.  Would you not rather have these people treated with openness and empathy so that they are not afraid to seek treatment BEFORE these terrible things happen?  I don't mean the doctors I mean everyone in the world, and I know it's almost impossible for a lot of people to feel anything for someone that has done something like this but like I said before, go ahead and execute him or put him in jail forever if you want.  If you want to deal with this disease you need more funding to search for a cure and support to protect the public from these people.   Executing him or putting him in jail for life will just polarize already alienated people and cause them to try and hide their disease more and I can garauntee there are people out there like Li who are following this story right now.

Tim you didn't die in vain and I hope you bring about some positive change past the stupid comments and ideals regarding a lot of serious issues many people in our country seem to have.

Some refer to God's own  system of righteous  justice as "the Dark ages?"  the world in general is now living in the dark ages my friends and i can prove it.  Modern man has a spiritual mental disorder because he no longer fears God! No, he falsely believes in a liquid warm sense that God is a nice guy and wouldn't hurt a living thing. however, i know just the opposite to be true. the creator is now  full of anger and fierce wrath too, why? Perhaps because modern man no longer believes in him and has rejected those ten universal laws too. modern man no longer believes in demonic possession either, when it occurs in an evil individual modern man calls it (a mental disorder) yes his answer to everything. sadly, today  mankind is under an allusion that we all live in a more enlightened age.

Now according to those daily headlines, evil atrocities are occurring more frequently now in this more "enlightened age" on a scale greater then any time throughout all of recorded history.   since we no longer believe that perversely wicked demons can possessing a person's already tainted wicked soul,  we call it (a mental disorder) or he must be (crazy out of his head), and needs some expensive therapy. We'll we could start off by exercising these invisible demons numbering in the tens of thousands out of the possessed man or woman, but in this more "enlightened age" ,we don't? This mental illness epidemic is just another excuse to give these filthy rich psychiatrist's more so-called mentally ill  patients to cure. so they can  release these so-called cured individuals back onto the street to commit more heinous atrocities to generate even more filthy Luca for these college educated parasites.

In Bible times, children who frequently disobeyed their parents were shockingly stoned to death. the same applied to every single act of evil no matter how small or insignificant it was. if casting out those demons doesn't work,  i don't wanna cure these so-called sick people No i want to them all 6 feet under, so they can't claim any more innocent victims due to their so-called psychiatrist created "sickness."

Just look at the statistics here, homicides going up,up,up.  that continuing infant genocide now at a all-time high too (abortion)  murder, rape, incest, child molestation, increasing dramatically in this more enlightened age.

As for me and my house, i prefer the Dark Ages with the Lord!!!

Well my retort System is Broken is this, for One the Liberal Government knew he was schizo when he immigrated and failed him in the health care aspect, two there are many murders, rapes etc, by people who in my opinion must be friggin insane to some degree to do this in the first place.

The man should be locked away, treated, cured, but never should he taste freedom.

Well that takes all. You will tell this grieving mother what she SHOULD do? Such boundless arrogance.

SystemIsBroken also said:

"He needs at least 2 people with him 24/7 to make sure his medication is administered whether he wants it or not."

If you are truly commited to the treatment program you advocate (as opposed to doing time for a brutal murder) perhaps you should volunteer to administer his meds. Any maybe you can kiss him goodnight too. No I didn't think so. Talk of compassion is cheap when somebody else is going to act out your fantasy 'treatment.'

Once again our justice system comes through for us - oh no wait.. that didn't happen at all...

Wonderful, all these comments. Is that what is called nuance, humanity and understanding?

This guy needs to be locked away for life. Period. Put him where the hell you like...call it what you like....diagnose him as you want.....consider him as what you like....Look after him well....But lock him away for good for god's sake.

How about understanding the mother??!!

(Sorry to be PC incorrect here.....)

You are not being PC incorrect, you are being logical!

If there is justice in this world, perhaps he will die in his sleep. Funny how this man (or animal) had sanity enough to get a Good education in this country, and to marry and devorce, and to hold down at times more than one job at a time. Funny how he came aboard the bus with weapons...Spells out premeditation to me...What about the note he left his exwife???? I think he knew exactly what he was doing...I think poor Tim was the random target....Perhaps as Li looked at it, he may put up the least fight...He should not be allowed any kind of normal life with other people ever...We would be better off if he would die. God bless Tim's family...My heart goes out to you.

Knowing the PC mentality of Canada today, he will definitely walk. Knowing that he is a minority he will also have the right to sue for some "I'm a victim of racism" legal standpoint.  Question is, how much will he get??

1
Barry Artiste

I think race has no issue in this, just as mass murder Wally Pickton fed what is said up to fifty women to his hogs a few years ago.  Guess what he got 20 years for all those murders, one wonders why we did away with the death penalty in the first place, but then a murderer locked away for life may be more fitting, if he never gets a chance for freedom.

0
René

And how much does it cost the state to keep these murderers alive and in prison? Personally, I'm tired of it. Costs a fortune now to execute them, too.

0
harringtola

I do hope she can find the right legal angles and support to make this happen. There are some people that might be considered "sick" in the technical sense but without  proper treatment, sick minds on the loose translates to evil in the world.

And there are a lot of sickos in this world, I hear the United Nations is full of em hand sitters.
