Approximately 77 000 Black and Decker Coffeemakers in Canada and 10 000 units in the United States are delivering more than hot coffee to households and have been recalled
Description follows:

This recall involves the Black & Decker® 8-cup programmable thermal coffeemaker. The recalled product can be identified by model number TCM1000KT, which is printed on the rating plate on the bottom of the coffeemaker.

Hazard:  The Black and Decker coffeemakers can overheat.  This poses a burn hazard as well as danger of property fires.  In Canada there have been 46 reports of overheating and 16 allegations of property damage.
Fix:  Stop using the recalled coffee maker and contact Applica Canada Corporation for a free replacement.  Do not contact Black and Decker about your Black and Decker Coffeemaker.

In addition to the recall of the Black and Decker Thermal Coffeemakers there was a previous recall of Black and Decker Spacemaker Coffeemakers.  The Black and Decker Spacemaker Coffeemakers also posed a burn hazard as their baskets could shift out of alignment and allow hot water to drip onto skin.  In the US injuries have been reported.

Number of Black and Decker Spacemaker Coffeemakers sold in Canada - approx 85 000 in the United States 485 000.
