Bobbi Kristina Turns 19, Agrees to Speak About Mother's Death
Speaking out for the first time since the death of her mother, Bobbi Kristina Brown has agreed to sit down with Oprah.
The OWN network confirmed that Miss Winfrey will talk with the 18-year-old on March 11 as part of the talk show's segment "Oprah's Next Chapter".
The teen daughter to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown has understandably been struggling with the loss of her mother.
"Her mama died, so she broke down. Nobody expected her to pass as quickly as she did. [Bobbi Kristina] had a nervous breakdown," Houston family member Ray Watson told Us Weekly.
During the one-hour special, the late singer's sister in-law/manager Patricia Houston and her brother, Gary Houston, will join Bobbi to share personal stories about Whitney and how they would like her to be remembered.
Meanwhile, Brown is celebrating her 19th birthday today (March 4) and sources told HollywoodLife that they feared she'd be spending it alone.
"This is such a hard time for Bobbi right now. The idea that she would be alone on her birthday is absolutely devastating. It's not safe for her to be alone, she needs a support system around her. Bobbi and [her adopted brother] Nick are really close so it's good he's with her. But Cissy has never been to visit Bobbi in Atlanta, so it's unlikely she'll go now."
With the unexpected death of her mother still fresh in her mind, those connected to Bobbi Kristina Brown were confident she was doing better as of last week.
"She's doing okay," says a source close to the family. "She's still obviously got a lot to deal with but she's doing a little better each day, and being back home in Atlanta seems to be a good thing."
Bobbi suffered from an emotional breakdown shortly after hearing the tragic news of her mother's untimely death, but with family support is getting by.
"She is a strong girl," says Ellin LaVar, Houston's former hairstylist, who did Brown's hair for her mother's viewing on Feb. 17. "I think with support she will make it through this."
According to a report published by the Daily Beast, Bobbi Kristina had temporarily gone missing after the emotional New Jersey funeral held for her late mother.
However in a statement to Access Hollywood, Houston's godmother Darlene Love explained, "We all went to a restaurant we call after a funeral or home celebration, a repast, where everybody goes and sits and talks and eats. She was there, she was there yesterday, she's been with the family these last couple of days."
When asked to respond to the Daily Beast's story, Love said, "We all [have known] where she is. She isn't missing."
The news site had also reported that the daughter of Bobby and Whitney was found doing drugs, with their rep telling People that they stand "firmly behind" their story.
