Breakthrough In Breast Cancer Research
A major breakthrough in breast cancer research was made today based on DNA sequencing. The 3 billion letters in the DNA sequence of a metastatic lobular breast cancer tumor have all been decoded by scientists at the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
Acclaimed science journal "Nature" will feature the breakthrough in cancer research as the cover story for Thursday. Being able to decode a DNA sequence allows scientists to gain a greater understanding of how cancer starts and expands.
Gaining this kind of knowledge about metastatic tumors is a huge breakthrough as 10 percent of breast cancer cases are of this variety.
