I think this is just what anyone who is old enough to drive SHOULD be watching-graphic or not.  Sometimes this is exactly what it takes for some people to realize how dangerous texting and other things that distract us from driving really are....GREAT PRODUCTION VALUE!!!

This really hits home... Two years ago 5 newly graduated stuedents... ( All girls)   were driving to one of the girls cottage for a week end celibration.. They were hit head on by a tractor trailer.. Another car with their friends was right behind that car.. there was nothing they could do to save those 5 girls from their burning car.. they watched in horror with their friends screaming... Later it was found out that 1 of the girls ( we do not know if it was the driver) had just sent a text seconds before the inpack ! Texting should be OUTLAWED in every state when driving !

My son and daughter will be watching this video.  anyone of age to drive or get a permit should be required to watch this type of film.  Driving while on the cell phone  and texting is illegal in NY..a law is no good unless it is strictly enforced!!!!!

American TV is calling this too graphic to show completely on the air.  I disagree, I don't think it goes far enough and should be mandatory watching for EVERY person getting a license or renewing one.   I have seen minor accidents in my daily commute and the young kids are crying how it was an accident, it was an accident.  No it wasn't, it is a deliberate decision to drive while distracted and the consequences are not pretty. If you think this is too graphic to show to your driving age children I just pray that you don't have to see the broken body of your child or another loved one before the mortician has made them look good for the viewing if this happens to them.

Wow ! My children AND MY HUSBAND WILL be watching this and I can only hope that it will scare them straight ( sort of speak ) This should be in all drivers ed classes. Tough shit I say to those who think its too " graphic" to show to our students.. PUH LEASE !  Great lesson, Thank You

This video is the honest to god truth. I am tow truck driver in Illinois and I see this alot as far as accidents. I have cleaned up minor fender benders to rollovers and ones like in the video. this should be watched bye everyone that is old enough to drive and who has a phone. Phones are just as lethal as driving while intoxicated. People need to WAKE UP and smell the roses. driving is a PRIVILAGE. I am also a motorcycle rider and have almost been hit by people driving because they were busy on the phone. I actually kicked the door of the car to get the drivers attention. this is no laughing matter If you are going to drive a car put the phone down and drive the car and pay attention. If it that important that you need to use your phone pull over and park the car and use your phone. HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good video.....why you would not show this to high school driver ed students is beyond me.  When I took driver's ed in 1966 we were shown films of real accident scenes (not staged).....very gruesome and it had a lasting impact on my driving habits.

Should be mandatory for all young drivers to watch. Either see the graphic results on the screen second hand or seem them for real first hand. Seeing the PSA would be preventative, the latter too late and exponentially more traumatizing.

i think this video should be shown all over the world! they should make videos like this about driving while intoxicated and driving while under the influence of drugs too. why they would call this to graphic for television i don't know. they play movies that show people cutting people up, is that to graphic too?

you know we think things like this won't happen to us . The text can wait !!!! is that text really worth a life!

Very powerful video.  I will definitely show it to my daughter.  I think everyone learning to drive needs to see videos like this and know the risks involved with irresponsible behavior while driving.  Well done.

GREAT VIDEO! I agree with "A Mother".  This should be shown to all up and coming drivers.  Many years ago when I was in High School learning to drive, they showed a film called 'Blood Alley".  I believe it was done by the Cal Highway Patrol.  Pretty graphic for the 70's, but let me tell you, it made a believer out of you.

I dont think 15 and 16 have earned the right to drive a car. Most teens are so immature and irresponsible and they dont have any purpose to be on the road. I have a 5 year old and to think that some immature person could take his life just pisses me off!

Very thought provoking... while very sad to watch,   not nearly as sad as being involved in.. As a professional driver (school bus) I believe it should be observed by all teens in the process of becoming licensed drivers.. Wake Up Call  ........ Driving can be a dangerous situation even under the best circumstances so we must all realize the importance of staying alert to all things while on the road and DRIVE DEFENSIVE..

I am a Texas peace officer and have worked wrecks very similiar to this commercial, I believe this should be shown in schools and in all driver safety courses. I also feel that teenagers from 13 on up should have to watch this. I sat and watched it with my 13 yr old daughter. It was very eye-opening for her. This video could make a difference and possibly save some lives. As far as the content, that age group tends to see alot more innapropriate things than this on television and at the movies that will not influence their safety.

well.. she was doing it wrong. everyone knows you're supposed to look up every couple seconds while you text and drive. she didn't do that serves her right

Unless your driving 15 mph in a parking lot, that trick won't work, idiot.  You'd be surprised how fast something could go wrong on the road when you're not looking, even for a few seconds.  It won't kill you to leave your phone alone while you drive, whereas it could kill you or someone else if you text.

Real highway crashes are much more horrific. New drivers should be forced to watch video of real crash victims - some are actually lucky to NOT have survived. I used to never wear a helmet on my motorcycle until I investigated a fatal crash involving a biker. Nothing like seeing a brain laying in the grass at the side of the road. People who are distracted while driving are a real hazard. At Daytona Beach bikeweek a young man nearly hit about 6 bikers that were only going about 10 mph in heavy traffic. He was texting in heavy traffic. His bumper ended up about 4 inches from my left knee. They trashed his car and trashed his face. I think he learned from this.

I work Fire/Rescue in Detroit as a Paramedic, and this is the most true-to-life PSA I have ever seen.  This scene looks earily similiar to many I have been on before.  Not only does it stress the importance of being attentive when driving, but how YOUR decision effects so many others around you.  The only part missing in this video is the difficulty in reaching the scene, by the Fire/Rescue units, having to pass other motorists on cell phones or while they are texting, impeeding intersections and failing to pull over out of the way; Even endangering more lives, from one incident.  Its a serious problems with severe, life-changing consequences; and everyone should seriously think about their choice.

I live in a rural community where even being distracted for a second can cause you to plow a deer much less another vehicle. I let my 16yo watch this as we are getting him a permit very soon. There are several lessons to be learned. Do not text, and if you get a call pull off the road and stop to answer or return the call. I have repeatedly seen people running red lights or stop signs and have avoided a collision with them because I paid attention to what they were doing (DISOBEYING A STOP SIGN?!).And take your time where ever you are going because it could save your life or that of another.   Speeding is not going to save you any time at all -- not even over long distances (more than 200 mile trip) so go the speed limit in all areas.

Texting & Driving I did a lot of driving while drinking and abusing other substances. Which means that I have been in at least 7 motor vehicle accidents in the last 25 or so years. I even got run over by a horse trailer once! I'm not proud.WELL, They, (Whoever They are?) have come out with a new study, because that's what They do. Study stuff. If it's something, and it's going to come into contact with human beings, it needs to be studied. Studied before, studied during, and then when it starts effecting people in a manner that is harmful, dangerous, or even deadly, They will have to study it some more. I wonder how you can get a job working for the Studious people who study stuff? Because, it appears, that somebody needs to go back and do some more studying where texting and driving are concerned. Who could have imagined that something as benign as texting would start causing accidents? Seriously, all I have to do is take my eyes of the road for a second. Then I have to type out words on an impossibly teeny, tiny keyboard. If I'm not simply sending a reply message. Well then I have to look up that persons number. Actually it's 6 or 7 seconds plus 2 or 3 more when I have to look something up. And, I always want to fix mis-spelled words. So count all that in your head. What, it was only about ten seconds that I wasn't paying attention. Seriously, close your eyes, and count to 7 or 10. I dare you to do that while you're driving. If You text and drive, you do that all the time. In one of the studies it was determined that we are more likely to crash our cars while texting & driving, than while drinking & driving. Oh yes, I'm sure there are quite a few smug, active alcoholics out there right now, who are pretty proud of themselves. Probably saying, "I told you I drove better drunk, than texting while I was drunk!"Well, as we all know, I'm sober with a cell phone. I'd like to think that, at this particular point in time, I'm a little less arrogant, and a lot more humble. One look in the mirror and I am not a teenager anymore. My reflexes are no longer cat like. More Kinkajou Sloth like. So it is time to make a decision. Continue to press my luck, and enjoy the adrenaline rush of total terror during a near miss doing 75mph while texting down I-5. Or like on Sunday, I'm just minding my own business, texting down South Shore Drive in Lake Oswego. I glance up from my phone, just in time to imagine what it would be like to park my Subaru in the trunk of they very lovely Porsche at the STOP sign in front of me. Yes, I choked on my heart as it jumped into my throat. Then, there They were on the TV last night. The Them who have the job where they determine what will & what won't kill us. Apparently, my husband Steve, had already talked to them, because he's been in my ear for a few days now; telling me that texting and driving is dangerous. I guess I needed the scientific conformation that They provide to various news organizations. I enjoy FOX News. Nothing like being alarmed every five minutes throughout the day. And I so enjoy watching them beat a dead horse. Of course, I'm not convinced until Anderson Cooper gives it his seal of approval. I bet Shepard Smith wishes he was as pretty as Anderson Cooper. But then, if he was as pretty as Mr. Cooper, I wouldn't be nearly as frightened!!! Forget Freddy Krueger. Just give Shepard some claws. I won't sleep for a month. Way off topic.Texting!!!! What I'm trying to say is, If you don't hear back from me right away during the day. I'm either napping, otherwise engaged, or DRIVING!!!!! Obviously, my driving is more than questionable when I'm altered, and I believe I've made a pretty good case as to my driving whilst texting, talking on the Phone, giving the finger to the guy who cut me off, while I'm texting.I have to do enough multi-tasking as it is. Turn signals, I-pod, radio, stop lights, merging, stop signs, people on bikes, bus stops, and let us not forget pedestrians. Don't want to run one of those over! And for gosh sakes, ODOT is all over the place this summer. It's like driving in a video game. At least I got a car seat for the dogs. They love texting in the car. When Maverick has the phone Zuzy wants it and vice versa. They have a Mike Brady style pay phone at home.So in conclusion- From now on, No more phone use in the car. In some states it's becoming a law, and in some I imagine it's still a personal choice. I am choosing to be a do gooder.Could you imagine being stone cold sober, and ruining someone else's life because you're texting. The Husband is definitely going to give me Brownie points for this. Any way, maybe I sound ridiculous. I just would like to encourage everyone to give this a try. Not so long ago they made seat belts mandatory. As it turns out, we wear them. I think we like being alive and unmarred. There was a time when a car seat for a child was made out of card board. My Mom put mine in the front seat right next to her. Right next to the steering wheel. Long story short, I was 3 or 4, and that was the first car I crashed. It was a brand new car too.If your child isn't big enough, you have to put them in the back seat so the air bag doesn't kill them. Go figure? I Know, that's a real head scratcher. Most states think it's a pretty good idea to wear a helmet when you're on a motorcycle. When I first got my driver's license, my mother made my younger sister sit in the backseat & wear a riding helmet. Now that was funny. Looking in the rear view mirror and seeing Hays in a riding helmet. Poor Hays. There are so many things out there trying to kill us any way. I am going to try to be one less thing. Now watch; some teenager is going to hit me while their texting. So, if you are trying to get a hold of me, you're just gonna have to wait. I'm either Driving, napping, in a meeting. Or, it could be as simple as, I don't know who you are.

Of course it's graphic.  Death is graphic.  Please don't avoid showing the truth because it's ugly and difficult to watch.  Although younger people are targeted in this video, ANYONE of any age shouldn't text while driving, just as we shouldn't drive under the influence of anything that can impair our senses.  The consequences can be severe.  Vehicles can be lethal.  I would suggest a disclaimer before it pops onto the screen, however, as it is probably too intense for children below driving age.
