NP Rank:
Canadian HIV vaccine ready for human tests
HIV Vaccine: After hearing about vaccine of HIV i am quite happy for those who are suffering from this disease, after successful tests on animals now this vaccine is ready to test on humans.
I think if this vaccine will pass those tests as well then this will be the biggest achievement for USA and World.
As all knows there are number of peoples are suffering from this disease...
Opinion: Does this Vaccine will pass the test on humans??
An HIV/AIDS vaccine developed in Canada has passed safety tests in animals and the researchers are awaiting approval to begin human trials in the U.S."It is a very important milestone for us," said Yong Kang, a professor of microbiology at the University of Western Ontario in London who has been working on the vaccine for 20 years.
Kang said he expects to get the go-ahead soon from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin human toxicology tests and two phases of clinical trials in the United States.
If all three trials are successful, the vaccine should be available within the next decade, Kang told CBC News on the phone while attending a meeting in South Korea.
According to a 2008 United Nations report on the global AIDS epidemic, 33 million people were living with HIV in 2007. Two million people died of causes related to the disease that year.
Dozens of HIV vaccines have already been developed and tested in animal models, but few have been tested in humans, none successfully. A promising trial in 2007 by pharmaceutical giant Merck and Co. was shut down after those receiving the vaccine contracted HIV at a higher rate than those who received the placebo.

It will still take some time and does need some more proof before we can shout victory.
And it could still be another hope that ends up being nothing but that, "Hope".

dont mean to be a downer but animal testing is inaccurate do to the fact that animals have different body processes and different strains of dieseases. Although i hope i am wrong, this drug will probably fail.

How I See IT (not verified)at 02:35 on July 5th, 2009
Did everyone miss that people are getting HIV while using the drug? If you are free of HIV would you take the vaccine to see if it works? Nada!!
Better to NOT engage in activities that would give you HIV than to take a vaccine, is how I see it. We are long overdo for a more moral society.

The testing started in South Africa today! (21/07/2009) I pray that it will be a landmark day in fighting back with positive results. Many have lost their lives in order that we may just be at this moment in the fight against the virus. And regardless of whether the vaccine works the research progress in ARV's has given hope to so many where this did not exist before.
I salute all those that strive to defeat this enemy. And I acknowledge all of those that have gone before in spirit to give us the solutions we now own.
I bow in humility and appreciation that have no words!
