Care To Live Vs. The Prostate Cancer Advocacy Groups
Here is the difference I see between the prostate cancer advocacy groups and Care To Live and I have e-mails to prove what I am about to say. Some groups were kind to speak out for Provenge but then it stopped. It is almost 2 years since the delay and we are still waiting for Milken's Prostate Cancer Foundation to even weigh in. It appears the others all gave in to Big Brother FDA and said ok. They didn't agree with the FDA but they accepted the FDA's screwball decision on Provenge. Care To Live on the other hand decided to keep fighting the FDA because the FDA is wrong. It is a conflicted, self-serving agency. What the FDA is doing is acting like an almighty god dominating the people it is supposed to serve. It is supposed to serve the people not lord over them.
We had a nice protest in Washington, D.C. on June 4, 2007. There were many advocacy groups there to protest the stupid decision by the FDA. But even then the groups did not get along. Some wouldn't carry signs, some would not appear on the platform if other groups were on it or had a sign in the vicinity. To me, it really got silly because the purpose was to protest as a unit against the evil empire in this case, the failed FDA. And let it be known, all people at the FDA are not bad, just the insane, inhumane ones running the place.
Care To Live was just an information website at the time but we came away with opened eyes. On that day the advocate groups (Care To Live was not one of them) met with FDA Commissioner Andy Von Eschenbach that afternoon and Von E politely ignored their plea. Well, I thought this is all a bunch of you know what.
So Care To Live is fighting the FDA, will continue to fight the FDA, and will never give up fighting the FDA. And that is the difference. The other advocate group can spin it or, to be fair, believe what they want, but the FDA is the one out of line here so I ain't sweet talking them (you all tried that and it got you nothing) and I ain't giving up fighting them. To me, the FDA is seriously wrong here and seriously flawed. Also, do note, not all Care To Live members are investors and no one at Care To Live takes a salary.
What do I have in my corner? As long as Scher hides his "personal opinion" to Alison Martin, I got leverage. As long as Pazdur hides all of his envelopes, letters, documents and e-mails, I got more leverage. As long as the FDA refuses to address a Citizens Petition that outlines the charges against them, I got even more leverage. Three FDA employees asked for the advice of the Advisory Committee and that Committee advised them, Provenge is safe, 17-0, and Provenge shows substantial evidence of efficacy, 13-4. Three Congressmen saw enough here to request an investigation.
I will not stop until we get reform at the FDA. We asked them nicely and they got uppity. They think they are better than the citizens of America. Read the first chapter of "Inside the FDA". Look at what they did to Garo Armen and his kidney cancer treatment. Look at what FDA did to Junovan. The FDA thinks it is God, King, Emperor and Commanding Officer. To me, it is a big piece of garbage with Pazdur serving as the king of the landfill.
So while all the other advocacy groups want to play nice, I will fight the FDA until it squares things up. We the people had enough of the shenanigans of the FDA and SEC. Look at what they have done to us. You take away people's health and wealth and what have you left them? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. You stripped them of their dignity and quality of life. Who died and made the FDA boss? This economy isn't in the dumpster for no good reason.
Just read all of Rbarr24's posts, particularly those pertaining to Lazard Capital. Rbarr works in the industry, he saw this stuff up front and personal.

And remember February 26, 2007. Scher told Medpage he gets money from Novartis, Novacea, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Aventis. Why is Februrary 26 important? He signed his waiver that day and gave just two conflicts. One was definitely Sanofi, what other one did he offer up? Who knows? But he left off two of the four. In addition, he was on two Scientific Advisory Boards at the time, ProQuest Investments and Cougar Biotechnology. Why weren't they on the waiver? Were they on his Special Government Employee form? U.S. Title Code 18 Section 208 says the waiver and SGE form are to list all investments and all employers. The waiver says what Scher showed them did not look like it would affect him financially if he sat in judgement of Provenge. Who believes that? This doesn't even include the almost $500 million dollar Schering Plough deal that went to Novacea, in particular Scher's Phase III trial.
Further, Scher told Marilyn Chase of the Wall Street Journal that he doesn't work with any treatments in competition with Provenge. How can that be? In fact, he admitted in his leaked letter that he was leading the Novacea Phase III trial. Cougar (Abiraterone), Novacea (Asentar), Sanofi (Taxotere) and Bristol-Myers (made a compound used to make GVAX) were all in competition with Provenge.
It all centers around Scher. NCI helped him write a letter. Scher lives in NJ where ProQuest is and Jim Cramer is. Scher works in NY where Lazard Capital is. Connect the dots and tell me why the FDA said it sided with him and helped leak his letter. Once you answer all of these questions and thoroughly investigate them and find out why Scher and FDA and NCI are doing their best to hide stuff, then you will thoroughly understand why Care To Live will never stop fighting the FDA and calling the FDA exactly what it is - the worst thing that ever happened to sick, dying people in America.
Since September 2005 when Cramer yelled it didn't show survival to May 2008 when Pazdur said all it had to show was survival, the trend has been there. They can say it but the FDA called for the Advisory Committee, granted Fast Track Status and Priority Review because they did see the survival and they knew all along about the small trial design and the missed primary endpoint. The allegations against Provenge by Wall Street, Scher, Pazdur, and Hussain did not stop the FDA from moving forward. The reason they called for the panel was now being used against Provenge. Even Scher and Hussain admitted seeing the survival, they just didn't want to admit it was coming from Provenge. Hussain sounded like a lying teenager when she said, "Well maybe it's something else keeping them alive." And now with the interim showing a 20% advantage over placebo, we know even better what we knew all along. So where are the advocacy groups? Get out there and shout at the FDA. No?
I spoke eyeball to eyeball with a doctor who administerd Provenge. He didn't flinch and he didn't stutter when he told me Provenge works. He saw it. He experienced it. I listened to two other doctors who saw it and experienced it, Drs. Penson and Schellhammer. But the FDA wants all of to accept their decision because it was the opinion of Scher, Hussain and Pazdur. The three of them never saw it and never experienced it. How stupid is that? Do you want to go to an experienced doctor when you are facing death or do you want to go to an inexperienced doctor?
Asentar and GVAX went by the wayside. Abiraterone is a full two years away. So why the prostate cancer advocacy groups aren't still getting after the FDA to get Provenge to the men right now, just blows me away. A man dies every 20 minutes. 30,000 a year. 20% of them means 6,000 men. Are not 6,000 lives worth it? Somebody wake me up and tell me this is all just a bad dream.
Sincerely,
Mike Kearney
