Penny's Negative Feelings Dissolved
Penny, aged 59, had recently retired from a job as a top civil servant from the Blair Government. She had become accustomed to a demanding, stimulating and fast paced career, however she was now finding it quite difficult having so much free time on her hands. She no longer had a direction in her life and was longing for something more. She didn't have any children or grandchildren due to problems with her ovaries when she was younger and so she was all alone. Consequently, she felt she had somehow failed as a woman for not having children, somehow she felt she had not reached her potential. At first she was relieved to be free from work, but gradually she began to feel that there was not so much to look forward to more and more until one night she had a panic attack during which she experienced an intense fear of death and being alone. As a result, she began suffering form early morning insomnia where she would have bouts of negative and worrying thought over her future. Penny had derived most of her feelings of self-worth from her status as a civil servant.
Penny decided to see a therapist and her treatment lasted for several sessions. Her treatment involved a combination of hypnopsychotherapy and straight forward hypnotherapy. The hypnopsychotherapy dealt with giving Penny some talk therapy and counselling about her belief system and her perspective about life. When she was under hypnosis, Penny was given suggestions that she would feel more postive and confident about her future and her entire outlook would be sunnier as a whole. To add to this Penny visualised and experienced her future and life as more productive and worthwhile with years and years of valuable time to do things that was important to her. Penny was given suggestions about herself to feel in today's throw away society that she was 'enough' and didn't need to keep proving herself.
After just a few sessions Penny began to show a dramtic improvement in her view and outlook on life. Penny began to feel as if the dark clouds of depression had lifted and she felt more postive and in control of her life again. Her life felt brighter and more alive! The feelings of anxiety had melted away and she now felt at ease once again. In addition to this Penny had taken up being an artist and practiced her once loved past time of painting.
Enjoy your Sunday!
