Cassandra Smith Was Told in Her Two Year Review at a Michigan Hooters That She Needed to Lose Weight

Cassandra Smith has worked at the Roseville Michigan Hooters for two years, but last Friday she said that during her annual review she was told by her bosses and two women from the company headquarters in Atlanta that they have noticed 'her shirt and short size could use an improvement'.

Cassandra Smith weighs 132 pounds and is 5 feet 8 inches tall.

According to WDIV Detroit, Cassandra Smith said that her bosses would give her a free gym membership and that she had 30 days to improve.

"If I improved a little bit, I'd be given 30 more days," Smith said. "If I improved completely, they would leave me alone. And if I didn't improve at all, I would possibly be separated from the company."

Smith is totally comfortable with her body and cried during the evaluation.

The uniforms for Hooters come in small, extra small and double-extra small.

Hooters of America Inc did release the following statement regarding the matter:

"Hooters of America Inc. announced today (Tuesday) that while the company does uphold image standards for the more than 17,000 Hooters girls currently serving in the more than 455 restaurants around the world, it does not impose any weight requirement," the company said in a statement.

The management team at the Roseville Michigan location has declined to comment on the matter.

The Hooters spokesperson went on to say:

"We will not make any comment on a current employee except to say that no employee in Michigan has been counseled about their weight. However, we will say that our practice of upholding an image standard based on appearance, attitude and fitness for Hooters girls is both legal and fair. It is not unlike the standard used by the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders or the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes."

Cassandra Smith was complimented on her positive attitude and her customer service skills.

This is some of the biggest BS on the part of Hooters I've ever come across. It hurts me to say that because it one of my favorite places to eat, but what is being done to Cassandra Smith is cruel and inexcusable. For starters, any company firing an employee (or threatening such action) simply because of their weight is just wrong to begin with, but even if they were justified in firing overweight people (which they're not; I'm just saying "even if" to demonstrate a point), being 5-8 and 132 does NOT in any way make Cassie Smith fat, and any employer who would say that 132 is too heavy to work at a Hooters restaurant is extremely full of himself/herself and doesn't deserve to have the authority to be anybody's boss. You just hang in there, Cassie. You'll come out on top one way or another.

Cassie is lucky she was hired at Hooters in the first place.  Im sorry that everybody in America needs to feed their egos and boost their self esteem before they look in the mirror and realize how fat and disgusting they are.  My girlfriend works at Hooters and she flipped out when she heard how retarded this girl was acting.  The only people who voice their opinons about hooters have probably never even stepped foot in one.  Its actually quick interesting reading all the comments people leave on these websites, and how everybody feels so bad for poor Cassie who wants to make 25000 dollars because her ego was crushed when somebody told her to lose a few pounds.  Get over yourself, hit a goddamn gym, or hears an idea stop eating so much f*cking McDonalds.

I agree with Pete. If you are hired for a job based on the way u look then it is your job to make sure u stay lookin good, or find another job not based on looks.

She should know better then. You work at HOOTERS? You are degraded from day one when you decide that's the best place for a woman to work. Okay. She made a mistake. I hope she sues then learns that the entire social culture of America feeds on this kind of behavior and that is why they told her to lose weight, it's really not that surprising. Most women feel they could always be prettier for someone. We live in a masculine driven culture. Sex sells. It's up to women to change that.

I have been to that Hooters and all the waitress were very friendly and very assertive to the job they were hired to do (wait on people). I really didn't feel like I was in a strip club, the place was very lit up and open. I am a women and I will never walk in hooters again ,I did not know that you hire women  to turn on the male customers only.I think all of  Detroit customers should boycot Hooters and  run this discriminating company out of business. May you all go to a resturant where a waitress can wait on you without having the perfect abbs to carry chicken wings and beer.

You have got to be kidding me. There is nothing wrong with a person of that height weighing 132 lbs.  I  have been to Hooters all over the U.S. and find that I have been ignored while they concentrate on flirting with my husband. Only when they realize that I am paying the bill do I get acknowledged.  Of course they've cut into the tip right. It is sexist.  I have friends that have family members working in Hooters and have been told it is just a stepping stone to make enough money to work at their "real" chosen career.A job is a job and if you are not doing your job properly, then there is reason for improvement.  I personally was told several years ago that I was too big for my shorts (5'2"-115 lbs).  So instead of dieting I quit.  So if this girl wants her self esteem ruined, then by all means stay at Hooters.

Honestly, for my restrauant i would not mind hiring the same waitress and not caring about the temporary weight issue.. i usually pay almost twice of what "hooters" pays.. the only thing is it is in only few states.
