For those who have lived in Bangkok for any length of time it is easy to remember back to a time when the word “spa” didn’t mean much to many people. That was before, of course, the world-wide explosion of the spa business when there were only a handful of spas in the entire country. Now, every hotel that aspires to be considered a five-star establishment has a spa and in more and more cases it’s not just your average spa either. The Centara Grand’s Cenvaree Spa is a case in point. It’s evident as soon as you enter the spa, which is part of the hotel’s “Lifestyle on 26,” that this facility was built to impress guests as well as offer a tranquil setting. The relaxation process that a good spa experience is supposed to foster is developed from more than just massages and skin treatments. The atmosphere of a spa contributes heavily to the process as well which is why the best spas often are as quiet as a tomb inside with just the most laid-back music playing softly in the background inside the treatment rooms. That is certainly the case at Cenvaree. In fact, during a recent massage this writer fell into that hazy area of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep, so soothing was the atmosphere combined with the skill of the masseuse. That was a first time experience and one that brought about a whole new appreciation for what a great spa experience could really offer. It is only fitting that the massage is called the “Tranquility Massage.” It definitely worked on this occasion. There are many different treatments to choose from here with all aspects of face and body regeneration covered. There are treatments for women, treatments for men and even packages for couples.  You can get wrapped in mud, take a bath with your mate or partake in one of many treatments from different parts of the world. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent and pampering -- just what a great spa should be. The Cenvaree belongs in the top tier of the many spas that now grace Thailand.
