Chinese youth sells kidney for iPad 2
Xiao Zheng, who lives in Anhui province, China, wanted an iPad 2 and could not afford it. He saw an ad on the Internet that would give him 20,000 yuan (around $3085) for one of his kidneys.
Evidently he negotiated 22,000 yuan and Xiao went to the hospital to have the kidney removed. He spent three days in the hospital and was released.
After the operation to remove the kidney, he bought both an iPad and an iPhone.
How Xiao kept the operation and the three days absence from his parents is unknown, but he was discovered by his mother. She saw the iPad 2 and the iPhone and kept asking him how he obtained the money to buy such expensive things.
Well, everyone knows how persuasive mothers can be and Xiao eventually broke down and told her about how he had sold his kidney. He developed some complications after the surgery when he was at home and his mother contacted the police.
They tried to contact the middle men who arranged the operation and paid Xiao, but they were nowhere to be found. The mobile phones the middlemen used were turned off.
The hospital denies any responsibility, as they had just rented out their urology department to a Fujian businessman.
The police are continuing their investigation.
Will Xiao have to sell his iPad and iPhone to pay for his medical bills?
