For a connoisseur or a lover of chocolate, such as myself, sinking your teeth into your favorite indulgence and then tasting larvae would certainly be a horror for anyone.  Are there no such thing as Quality Control Departments in the food industry anymore?  Slips and mishaps are bound to happen (supposedly) on very rare occasions, but this occurence would seem to be a deliberate example of mal-practise.  Government Standards?  "Sorry, but I don't understand what you're talking about!".

Ras Al Khaimah: Huge quantities of chocolate infested with worms and insect larvae have been seized from a popular supermarket.

A team of municipal inspectors raided the supermarket after a complaint filed by an Emirati.

The Emirati claimed that the supermarket was selling chocolates infested with insect larvae and that he bought bars of this chocolate. He provided inspectors with samples of the chocolates.

"The Emirati's complaint against the supermarket proved to be genuine [and] inspectors seized tens of chocolate bars infested with worms and larvae," said Adel Al Deek, who heads the Environmental and Public Health Department at the Municipality.

"The supermarket was ordered to pay a fine of more than Dh2,000 for the violation," he said.

Municipal inspectors also seized fast food meals that were being sold to customers as if they were fresh while they were actually prepared in another restaurant a day or two before. Those meals were not sold in the restaurant and so were transferred to another restaurant to be heated and sold.

Cheating customers

Inspectors raided the two restaurants, seized the meals and initiated an investigation, which indicted the two restaurants.

The restaurant, which prepared the meal for the first time, was ordered to pay a fine of Dh300 while the other one, which re-cooked the meals, was ordered to pay a Dh500 fine.
