Clint McCance, Arkansas School Board Member, Resigns After His Anti-Gay Facebook Rant

Clint McCance appeared on AC360 and announced his resignation from the Midland School District board after some anti-gay remarks were posted by McCance on his Facebook page.

McCance started by posting about Spirit Day and saying he would not wear purple for any 'queers' unless they all committed suicide. Then he wrote "No because being a fag doesn't give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives. If you get easily offended by being called a fag then dont tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I dont care how people decide to live their lives. They dont bother me if they keep it to thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make a special purple day for them. I like that fags cant procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die. If you arent against it, you might as well be for it."

He then wrote that if his kids were gay he would disown them, but that would never happen because "My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone."

Anderson Cooper invited McCance to appear on his show (video below), and when he asked him if he really would like to see gay people die, McCance said he made some really ignorant comments and did not realize just how ignorant they were. He said he would never support suicide of any kids, or bullying of any kids, and that he posted further on in his post that he hated the fact that the kids who killed themselves felt they had nowhere else to turn.

Anderson says that he sounded like a bully in his Facebook postings and McCance responds that they were 'too emotional' and that the words he used were 'unfortunate' and says he can now only 'extend his apologies for his poor speech'.

When asked what he was apologizing for, McCance says what he did was 'over the top' and he doesn't really believe anyone should commit suicide.

He says a few things about 'not bringing honor' to what he wrote, but never actually says he is sorry. He does say that he does not agree with the language he used, but when asked if he really wants gay people to get AIDS and die he says he doesn't wish death on anyone.

He says he is a big enough man to admit when he says something wrong and then he says he will resign from the school board 'to help his community and to help his school'. 

He does extend his apologies to all familes that have lost any children through suicide, especially to the five families that have recently lost children.
