Coffee reduces risk of death from cancer

People who drink four or more cups of caffeinated coffee each day have only half the risk of dying from oral or pharyngeal cancer when compared to those who drink less, according to a new American Cancer Society study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

Prior studies have found that higher levels of coffee consumption are correlated with a lower risk of contracting oral and pharyngeal cancer. For example, a study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention in November found that coffee drinkers (as long as they had fewer than five cups a day) were 39 percent less likely to develop cancer of the mouth or throat than non-coffee drinkers – although the effect was weaker in those who regularly smoked or drank liquor.
