Colin Farrell Covers Esquire UK, Talks Self-Destructive Behavior
He's no stranger to media attention, and Colin Farrell spices things up in the October 2011 issue of Esquire UK magazine.
The "Recruit" stud looks fabulous in the photo spread, and in his interview he opens up about his past of destructive behavior.
Colin confessed, "I was killing myself. My mum was waiting for a call to say I was dead. I'm a garden-variety drug addict. I'd take anything until it's all gone. So forget Hollywood, parties and fun and all that, at the end it was me on my own in a room with a kit of stuff every night. I also had more one-night stands in a week than there are nights in a week."
"I think I probably annoyed a lot of people because I was having so much fun. Because I didn't even work -- I mean, I did but I didn't. It happened when I wasn't looking. How did all this come about? It was so fast, whatever converged to carve my trajectory through this town, it was ridiculous."
Ultimately it took criticism of his performance on screen to get Farrell's attention. The 35-year-old tells Esquire UK that reviews of his part in 2004's Alexander made him doubt his ability as an actor. The negative responses also made him think about giving it up.
"That was tough. I say tough, relative to a charmed life, but I'm not going to apologise for how much it affected me emotionally and psychologically," Colin says.
As for whether he misses his old life, Farrell commented, "Every now and then I miss a night of reckless abandon, but not often."
"Like I say, you're always missing something."
Colin Farrell is currently starring in a modern remake of the classic horror film Fright Night, co-starring Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Not surprisingly, he plays the role of a sensual vampire who lives next door to the film's main protagonist (Yelchin).
As he readied for the August 19th release of the highly-anticipated vampire reboot, Colin called in to "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest" last month (August 16) where he dished some details on his both his personal and professional life.
"I was [a fan] of the original. I saw it when I was about twelve for the first time and I loved it, and I still love it! I've probably seen it about 12 or 15 times," he told Ryan of the 1985 flick, which is written and directed by Tom Holland.
As for what's happening in his love life, the apparently very-single Farrell joked, "I'm married to my harness. It's me and my harness. It's the only thing getting near my crotchal region, to quote Ron Burgundy."
