Concern over the exposure to Salmonella in hazelnuts spreads to more companies in Oregon.  The FDA has issued an alert regarding hazelnuts that may have been exposed to Salmonella bacteria during processing.  The following companies have recalled hazelnuts.

  • Kunze Farms
  • Willamette Shelling
  • Willamette Filbert Growers
  • Mountain Man Nut and Fruit Company
  • Whole Foods Market
  • Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts
  • Harry and David
  • Burnt Ridge Orchards
  • Market of Choice

If you have recently purchased hazelnuts(filberts) from any of these companies, do not consume them.  Return them to the vendor.  Food exposed to Salmonella bacteria may not look or smell spoilt, but it can make you very ill.  For those most vulnerable to Salmonella, it can lead to death.
