Condom ring tone boosts HIV drive
"Condom! Condom! Condom!" a chant rings out across the hotel lobby - don't panic it's just someone's mobile phone. It might not be to everyone's taste but the condom ringtone has been launched in India by the BBC World Service in conjunction with AIDS charities to promote safe sex. It's a humorous way to get the message over in a country where over 3.5 million people are HIV positive and talking about sex and sexually transmitted diseases is still taboo for many.
The ring tone is part of a three year campaign to normalise the use of condoms in India a campaign that includes slogans such as:
"It's a sign of manhood... but it's not a moustache"
You can hear the ring tone from links on a couple of the pages highlighted below and even download it to your own phone should you wish to cause a bit of a stir next time you re phoned in a public place.
As part of its campaign to fight against Aids, a charity has launched "condom!", a mobile phone ringtone designed to encourage condom use. It's simply hilarious. Check it out and download it onto your mobile.
Launched by the BBC World Service Trust, the campaign aims to make condoms "more socially acceptable" in India, a country where between 2 and 3.6 million people are HIV positive.
A mobile phone ring tone that sings "condom, condom!" has been launched in India to promote safe sex and spread Aids awareness.
The tone features a professional singer chanting the word "condom" more than 50 times.
Ever heard a safe-sex promo sung in multipart harmony? Have a listen to the "condom a cappella" ringtone. Just launched in India--where approximately 2.5 million people are living with HIV--it's part of a three-year ad offensive aimed at making condom use there more socially acceptable. And it's actually quite catchy.

LotusFlower, I like this story. It's good stuff. It's funny and creative - but I wonder how it translates to the "bedroom" - do you only get reminded when your phone rings in the middle of doing the deed?

I'm impressed and very amused. I hope this works out.
