Dailymail.co.uk: Metal earrings and tooth fillings 'cause chronic back pain'

In a recent report by the DailyMail.co.uk, it says experts claimed that metal earrings and tooth fillings could be the cause of chronic back pain. In the study, it cited that even "pieces of metal that pierce or even just touch the skin could be setting off a massive chain reaction in the body, sending hundreds of muscles out of alignment."

HaHa! You bet! But you know I already read researches and heard some experts say something about this so this must be a validation of these bits of information I gathered before. Although they particularly mentioned the tooth filling which is actually a mix of mercury and silver. You can just imagine what the lethal combination of these two substance can bring to our body.

But even more, this research reveal something else - earrings and other jewelery! That is really something to think over! But I find this report credible and sensible.

The tooth filling I can understand. Another article on NP mentioned that. But noone mentioned metal earrings! I love earrings so I am hoping it's not too big of a deal. Thanks for the article, ryanborja!

But you know how I look at women without those fancy jeweleries? They look very beautiful in their natural self. I think when you look closely, natural beauty is of the essence here.

But when a woman who is already naturally beautiful wear those earrings, and all those fancy metallic, I feel disappointed because they seem not trusting the natural beauty in them.

After reading that article, I am offended. As a jewelry artist, I use metal every day. I have never heard one person say something like this - even if it is true. It is true that people have allergic reactions to cheap metal in ear wires - which is exactly why I use the best materials I can find. As far as I can tell from that article, they didn't specify which kind of metal in earrings caused this back pain.

I'm guessing that anything is possible, and there is a great deal of controversy here in the US over the health of one's body related to mercury amalgam fillings.

Reading that earrings might cause the rest of people's bodies to realign sounds possible to me, but at the same time I could have guessed that such a claim would be made by chiropractors (who adjust people and repair their body alignment for a living)...

The argument could also be made that anything touching anyone can hurt one's back as well...Maybe you don't feel it now but 20 years from now that heavier wool dress coat you wore over the winter for much of your life is making your knees degenerate. I do, as a person who makes jewelry for a living, feel that this article should offer more research references. The blurb reads as fact but The Daily Mail seems to have sensationalized any information and the piece winds up reading like a press release from someone trying to increase his income. Unfortunately, many folks don't click to get to the full article.

I do find that a claim such as this, which seems to be largely unsubstantiated and completely aimed at gaining the chiropractor at the head of this claim (and his 250 minions) fame and fortune, is hurtful to those of us that make jewelry for a living- many of us could not learn a living any other way and many of us have health issues that predate any making of jewelry or handling of metals. I also feel it offers another thing for the general public to be paranoid about.

The full article reminds me of those fake ads in magazines (the ones that say in very tiny font "advertisement" but otherwise look like a continuation of the rest of the magazine)... I was half expecting to see an address to which I might send my hard earned money to realign my body from my two little piercings, as well as lose 20 lbs overnight, and enlarge my penis in the process.

As someone who earns their money working with metal and as a massage therapist, I find the suggestion that the metal in earrings causes back pain completely laughable, but hey I've got both bases covered. Maybe I should be giving my earrings to my clients to keep them coming back.
