Dentist Tells Me They don't Accept ODSP Insurance, Since When?

I experienced Harper's budget cuts in an interesting way and I'm not impressed!  I called a local dentist where I just moved to and for the first time ever, I was told they don't take ODSP insurance! Since when? I was stunned! This is how to free up money, denying people basic dental care who's health is beyond their control? I've been on disabilty for seven years due to chronic illness and I have never had difficulty getting in to a dentist. A lot of my health issues originated from old and rusty fillings poisoning my system. Keeping my teeth healthy is critical to my overall health. This Prime Minister has really messed up priorities!!!!!.

["Access to dental treatment for clients of the publicly funded dental program (Children In Need Of Treatment, Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works) is difficult in this area, especially for new clients". quoted from Belleville Intelligencer

Would you please explain how the Federal Government is responsible for an Ontario program.  It seems to me that  your beef should be with the Ontario Liberals and not the Federal conservatives.

And here in the UK we have a similar scenario - many dentists have pulled out of providing NHS treatment leaving some areas with no local NHS dentistry care at all.

Nearly 80 per cent of the population no longer has an NHS dental service. But rather than going private here, increasing numbers of people are heading abroad. It may be cheaper but, as Olga Craig discovers, the personal costs can be horrific

Sure can, this is off of a government site   "Health Canada's Role The Office of the Chief Dental Officer (OCDO) is the focal point within Health Canada for oral health issues. The mandate of the office is to increase awareness of good oral habits and to improve the oral health of Canadians. As there is a link between oral health and general health, an improvement in oral health may lead to an improvement in overall general health."

That still makes ODSP a provincial program and not federal.  There is no federal dental plan.  Health Care by the way is also administered by the Provinces.

Refusing to serve Canadian clients on disability insurance should be addressed by the Health Minister no matter what province they are from!

I had been treated by a dentist in Sarnia where I live for over two years.  He is an excellent dentist, and whatever ODSP did not cover, I paid for myself.  This was hard financially, but my dental health is important to me.  One day I went for a regular dental appointment, and this dentist told me the "girls" in the office were going to turn me over to collections because I had a thousand dollar bill!  They were not putting the charges through ODSP properly, and should have been informing me of ANYTHING that was not being covered, before proceeding with any further treatment!  I refused to pay it, and now I cannot go to this dentist.I have since been to TWO dentists, and it is obvious they are not crazy about disability patients.  I do not understand this, and believe it is discrimination. While searching for a dentist, I was actually told by one office, Dr. Trieman, that he does NOT accept ODSP patients.Any suggestions as to how I can get dental care?Regards,Maureen O'Neil
