It may seem counterintuitive that if you’re sleeping you can lose weight; however, numerous studies point to the importance of sleep to lose weight. Those who are sleep deprived have a much harder time dropping excess pounds.
When people stay up later, they’re not staying up late to go for a run or lift weights; they’re looking up dresses on Pinterest, watching another episode of Breaking Bad, or other sedentary (read: fun) activities. The trade-off of sleep for more hours in the day isn’t worth it, though.
