DNA Test Determines Best Diet for You
New DNA Test Predicts What Kind of Diet Helps You Lose Weight
The simple DNA test can actually determine which type of diet works for you, whether that's a low fat or low carb. The study was done by a group of US researchers out of Stanford University, and is being presented at an American Heart Association conference.
The results from the small preliminary study of 101 women showed those on the best diet for their genes lost two to three times more weight than the rest.
The study looks at how your body responds to certain nutrients according to your genetic makeup. This type of study is called 'nutrigenomics'.
Diet DNA Test
A simple swab test from the inside of 101 women's cheeks supplied the data for the study. The women were then put on different diets for a year: low carb, low carb/high protein, low fat and very low fat.
The researchers divided the group into three genotypes which they described as low carbohydrate diet responsive, low fat diet responsive and a balanced diet responsive genotype
The study showed that women on the right type of diet lost 2-3 times more weight than when they were on the wrong diet. If so, this sort of testing could greatly aid those battling health problems due to weight.
All findings right now are early, and a much wider study needs to take place before anymore conclusions can be drawn.
