Doctor saves life of poor villager with Viagra drug
MUSSOORIE, 10 Sept: In a pathbreaking cure for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Disorder, Doctor Sunil Sanon, here, is on the verge of successfully treating a 30 year old villager Jyoti of Khera village near Thatyur in Jaunpur Block 32 kms from Mussoorie by prescribing Viagra, a drug used for erectile dysfunction.
Dr Sunil Sanon informed Garhwal Post that Jyoti, who had been suffering from Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Disorder since the age of 15 and was diagnosed by Dr Veenu Sanon long ago when the patient was just a teen, at a health camp organised by the couple in Thatyur free of cost. She was suffering from breathlessness and her condition was serious then.
Dr Sunil Sanon said that after his wife diagnosed the disease PAH disorder in Jyoti’s case, he sent Jyoti to Bombay Hospital, bearing the total cost himself, for further investigations, and the diagnosis was confirmed there. They prescribed some drugs and sent her back but there was no change in the condition of Jyoti. Dr Sunil Sanon said he couldn’t see the poor child in agony and he set out to research more on the subject and came out with the groundbreaking result that Sildenafil, the active component in Viagra, could be beneficial in treating the patient suffering from PAH.
Invigorated with his finding, he set prescribed the drug to Jyoti and to his delight he found the drug was having a positive effect on her condition.
Jyoti, thanking the doctor, said, ”He has changed my life completely.” She said with tears in her eyes that for her Dr Sanon and his wife were sent by God. “I could barely walk when the doctor couple found me and blood used to ooze out from my mouth and 5 years back my husband left me and a child aged 3 due to my condition but Dr Sanon did not lose hope and kept working. One year ago he changed my prescription.” Showing the cover of Nefadipin, which is not as effective as Viagra, she said it was a drug that had transformed her life completely. “Now I can work for longer hours and the problem of breathlessness has also vanished. I feel healthy now,” she asserted.
It is important to note that similar findings have been reported by news agencies in recent months about international researchers but the effective treatment had already been initiated by a small town doctor, Sunil Sanon.
The international case study done by Adatia at Childhood Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic at the Toronto hospital for sick children in association with Tilman Humpl, present Director of the clinic, on the use of Viagra as a drug for PAH also suggests findings similar to Dr Sunil Sanon. The study gave 14 children with pulmonary hypertension various doses of the impotence pill for a year.
At the end of the year, researchers say the average distance the children could walk in six minutes increased by more than 500 feet.
The medical fraternity in Mussoorie is excited at the results achieved by Sunil Sanon, a doctor from this small sleepy hill station of Mussoorie and are looking forward to more such results on the case.

Viagra's unexpected benefit has led the U of A researchers to encourage doctors to consider the drug when a patient has a failing right ventricle of the heart, a dire condition for which there are currently no treatments available.
The research will appear in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association.
"There are a number of medical conditions in both children and adults for which there is a need to boost the performance of the right ventricle, and this drug can be clinically and immediately relevant to help these patients," said Dr. Jayan Nagendran, a cardiac surgery resident at the U of A and the first author of the paper.
