Does Jessica Simpson Need the Fat Belly Diet? No Way, says Ashlee
Last week Jessica Simpson was heavily criticized by the press for a noticeable weight gain after a performance she gave at the Kiss Country Chili Cookout in Pembroke Pines Florida, and now she and her sister Ashlee are fighting back.
When the press began calling Jessica fat and suggested that she needed to diet after her January 25, 2009 appearance Ashlee Simpson immediately jumped to her big sister's defense.
On her MySpace page Ashlee called the press reaction to her sister "disgusting" and blasted back with a public statement in which she characterized the media as being inherently misogynistic.
If the comments to Ashlee's MySpace blog post are any indication the vast majority of the Simpson sisters fans agree that the press was out of line. View comments or add your own at Ashlee Simpson's MySpace page.
I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister's weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman's weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.
All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you're a celebrity, there shouldn't be a different standard.
Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend?
I seriously doubt it.
How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?
Now can we focus on the things that really matter.

Jessica Simpson was equally unimpressed with the press and proudly defended her curves. Never apologetic for her yo-yo-ing figure Jessica Simpson is always exuberant about her sex appeal no matter what the scale says. In a 2007 interview the pop starlet was quick to point out the benefits of an hourglass figure and defend women with "real" bodies.
At Sunday's Kiss Country Chili Cookout in Pembroke Pines, Fla., the singer, 28, bounced on stage in high-waisted jeans and a double belt.
In a 2007 interview with Harper's Bazaar, she recalled a conversation she had with pal Ken Paves.
"Do you think the guys in here are all really looking at all those skinny girls and thinking, Wow, I want to get with her? Or are they looking at the girls with the curves and thinking, Yeah, I want to get with her!" Simpson said.
"Curves are better," Simpson added. "I don't get the whole rail thing. It's not good for your heart, it's not good for your mind; it's emotionally destructive, it really is."
A harshly critical press be damned... the Simpson sisters are clear in their stand; Jessica is as gorgeous at 140 pounds as she is at 110 and she doesn't need a fat belly diet! Bravo to them, suddenly I find myself a Simpson sister fan.
