Dorel Distribution Canada is the subject of another recall of baby equipment. This time it is an expansion of a recall originally posted in February 2009. The recall is for Safety 1st Smartlight Stair Gate.

Full Product Description
This recall involves all Safety 1st SmartLight Stair Gates. The product is a white metal gate with a gray handle and a motion sensor nightlight. The recalled gates have the model #42111. The model number is located on a sticker on the underside of the handle panel.

Hazard: the hinges on the gate can break allowing children to fall down stairs. At this time no children have been injured, but 30 reports of failed hinges have been received.

Fix: stop using the gate and contact Dorel Juvinile Group to obtain a free repair kit.
Number Sold in Canada: approx 7 000 sold at Sears and Wal-Mart in addition to the 58 000 originally recalled.

Dorel Distribution has had recall notices for two other products this year -- baby bassinets, and baby cribs.
