Dr. Death receives jail sentence

A French court on Monday sentenced a cosmetic surgeon to four years in prison for mutilating and endangering the lives of dozens of his patients.  Michel Maure, who claimed to be one of the world's best plastic surgeons, was arrested in Spain last month after going missing while awaiting the verdict of his trial in the southern French city of Marseille.

After granting bail in June despite having 96 charges against him, the botch doctor disappeared on his luxury yacht.  French authorities issued a European arrest warrant, and after months on the run Maure has just been arrested in Spain.  He now faces extradition back to France to receive his sentence, which was previously scheduled for delivery today.

During his trial the court heard that he had carried out dozens of operations, including breast enhancements and liposuction in a dirty, run down clinic in Marseille.

He left his victims physically and psychologically scarred with failed breast implants, liposuction, facelifts and nose remodelling. He failed to administer enough local anaesthetic, inflicting severe agony on his patients, said prosecutors.

The remodelled breast of one woman slid to her armpit overnight, the court was told, while another found her shoes filling with blood as she drove home after a terrifying midriff liposuction.

Maure is an anaesthetist by training, but due to a loophole in French law he was able to practice cosmetic surgery.  This loophole was rectified in 2002, but Maure continued to perform cosmetic surgery on (mostly female) clients, luring them on his website (magicclinic.com) with cheaper rates and easy payment methods.

Note to women: do not allow a shady 'surgeon' to install your new breasts for you.  Finding one of them in your armpit the next morning is hardly worth it.

Terri Potratz, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Implants at all is hardly worth it, be proud of what you got, even if it's itsy bitsy
