Dr. Phil on Farmville: Dr. Phil Told Addicted Mom to Quit
Dr. Phil told a mother addicted to the Facebook game Farmville to quit and end her "ridiculous addiction".
Teresa became addicted to Facebook about a year ago. She stopped talking to people, even her husband or kids. She would not return phone calls because she became so immersed within the Facebook game Farmville, which allows players to tend and grow a virtual farm.
Teresa's daughter, Jennifer, was very concerned about her mother's obsession with Farmville, "She's constantly on the computer, and she neglects all of her responsibilities," and "I just feel like she's too busy for us, because Facebook has taken over who she is."
Dr. Phil points out the extremes Teresa has gone to so she doesn’t have to share the PC with her family. “She unplugged the router, so you would think the Internet had gone down, and as soon as you went away, she plugged it back in and went back to tending her crops,” he tells Jennifer.
“Part of the reason is because of her attitude when I do ask to get on the computer,” Teresa begins. “No, it’s not,” Dr. Phil interrupts. “You unplugged it because you have a ridiculous addiction to a ridiculous computer game that’s interfering with your ability to be a mother. You needed a fix, and she wouldn’t get off, so you had to create the opportunity.”
Farmville is the most popular Facebook game application with 74 million active users. Players manage the virtual farm by planting, growing, and harvesting crops, trees, and livestock. The game application was launched in June 2009, developed by Zynga Game Network.

I, too , play Farmville everyday. Not only is it a very entertaining game, it is also a way to meet and converse with people all over the world. I have met many internet friends that I would ever have known otherwise. I may be "addicted"; but I do not let the game keep me from enjoying and participating in my real life. If that ever becomes a problem, I will turn off my PC.

Obviously this woman had other issues before she started playing Farmville. Like depression, etc. Farmville gives people a happiness to build and learn to Farm in a fun happy way. Gives a person something of their own Property, houses, farm animals. A place you can call your own. Thats how I feel about this situation.

This is my opinion:I play Farmville almost everyday. I work a 40 hour week, have a husband take care of my house. Have a social life, I got out with friends, to the gym etc. So I play Farmville on Facebook a couple hours a day. I'm not obsessed with it, If I miss playing it for a couple days, I'll survive. It is a stress reliever that and Mafia Wars after a hard days work and when I get my dinner and house chores, errands or what not done. I also don't let it take over my life. I know people can get addicted or obsessed with Facebook or just about anything including, alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, gambling etc. You can get help for addiction you just have to want to help yourself and get better. Telling an addict they have a problem is like talking to a brick wall. If they are depressed and in denial, there are other underlying issues present that a good therapist can help.Again they have to want the help to overcome the addiction whatever it is. Its not an easy road but it can be done. With anything doing it in moderation is the key. So if I forget my farm for a few days (life get busy at times)and the crops wilt and the cows don't get milked. For me its not the end of the world. I'll get around to it when I have the time. Farmville is a fun social game at least for me. Farmville don't like it don't play it that simple.
