Some 75% of the population support a system in which everyone is automatically an organ donor unless they actively register their objection, according to a survey by TNS Nipo, reports Saturday’s Volkskrant.
The cabinet dismissed this option in the summer.
A donor registration system under which people give permission for their organs to be used for transplant after their death has been in operation in the Netherlands for 10 years.
However the waiting time for a transplant has risen in the intervening period from 2.5 to over four years, says the paper.
