7 Kids Hospitalized in French E Coli Outbreak

Seven children have been hospitalized due to E coli poisoning in France. The French E coli outbreak is not related to the EHEC outbreak that began in Germany. One child is in a coma, suffering from kidney and neurological damage.

Health authorities traced the E coli outbreak to Steaks Country frozen hamburgers sold through the Lidl supermarket chain. SEB, which manufactures the Steaks Country burgers, has yet to issue a recall.

Lenoir said the seven children were in hospital with infections stemming from E coli, which causes vomiting and severe, often bloody, diarrhoea. He added that five of the children had eaten frozen ground beef patties that were made in a French factory and sold by the German supermarket chain Lidl.
