Ontario has a new outbreak of E. coli contamination.  Humans carry approximately 3 million E. coli bacteria in a healthy lower intestine, but if the bacteria are ingested, they can cause massive problems.  The strain that causes "hamburger disease" is most often E. coli 157.  The Candian Food Inspection Agency has not identified the source or the variant of the E. coli in this outbreak

Ottawa, November 11, 2008 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is informing the public of its investigation into potential food sources linked to an E. coli outbreak in the Niagara, Halton, Waterloo and Guelph areas of Ontario.

The actual source of the E. coli has not yet been definitively identified. Canadians are reminded that the best way to prevent foodborne illness is by handling their food safely. If you believe you are infected with E. coli you should not prepare food for others; if you must, you are advised to wear disposable gloves.

Canadians can also refer to CFIA’s detailed four point plan to prevent E. coli in the home: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/...cause/ecolie.shtml.

Ontario seems to have a great deal of those out breaks in the past decade, more then any where else I know off. I am sure the great none functioning sewage system have nothing to do with all this nor would the over crowded Cafo Farm operation, after all Ontario has the highest Life stock density in North America and the World Over. We did conduct many test on the Great lake's water and the e-coli problem, there was even a DNA test done in order to find out if the e-coli is of Farm origin or Human cause, and surprisingly it was mostly Human to up to 60% and 30% Farm the rest wild life and other.  However, Farm operation have considerably grown since then and so have the Cities as well. Yet the Sewage was never updated nor changed to deal with the growth and Farmer Manure Management Plans where not adapted either to Cafo operations.
