I had a paternal grandmother(passed at age 66) and a sister who got breast cancer at age 49 had chemo and radiation and is going to be 56 in March. She is cancer free now 7 yrs. I got breast cancer Dec/08,lumpectomy Jan/09. Doctor from Toronto Sunnybrook was at my hospital in Barrie(RVH) and suggested maybe gene testing. So far I only needed radiation, so held off. Went in March/09 for gene testing and genesist thought there wasn't enough in our family, saying we were borderline. Since having ecoli and TTP(blood discorder)in 2007 and in hospital for whole summer then taking plasma pheresis treatments daily. Other functions like my kidney failing etc. Many doctors looked after me in St. Mikes, Toronto. I also have kidney gene which runs terribly in our family.(We were a test family for Canada) Anyway, I was very upset. So lady agreed to do my testing but held off on my sister. It came back BRC2 gene. To everyones surprise, genesist included. Then 2 of my three sisters got tested(one of whom already had breast cancer)both tested also for BRC2 gene. My mother got tested and was negative so it came from my fathers side. He died at age 57 from the kidney gene. All medical people and doctors told me I should have mascectomy so I would be probably safe from it returning. I was the only one to decide to do this. In Sept/09 I had a double masectomy. Could not have immediate reconstruction due to my full size. I went to the reconstruction doctor early Jan this year 2010. He can't do it now because his hospital (Womens College  is an ambulatory hospital) is case anything happened. He says my past health and medications puts me at high risk. Now I thought maybe I should have had radiation and continued on. Since my one sister has had no problems. Anyway I am now going to see surgeon at St. Mike's where I was almost  2 yrs ago to see if I can get reconstruction. This makes your life awful. I also have fibromyalgia, diaphramic hernia, osteoarthritis in the chest and knees. I say this cause I always get pains in the chest. I way back in 1982 had an ovarian cyst removed. Several times over the yrs had some and they disappeared etc. Had big black mass, then apparently was gone?? In 2002 I finally told doctors to do total hysterectomy including ovaries. I was 46 and didn't need them anyway. They had always caused my problems. Looking at my medical reports. I had cyst showing in 1995 when we went to Bethasia Hospital for kidney testing in US. Again I had 2 behind uterus before my hysterectomy. So, I'm glad I did that or I think I would have gotten ovarian cancer, which would have been worse. None of my sisters have the health problems I had endured. Could you let me know when E.D. Hill is going to be back on so I don't miss your show. I usually watch everyday, but miss a few and  todays I missed but put it on later tonight and saw some of it. Missed beginning. Hope all goes well for her and pray for her family as just getting these sicknesses suck. By the way I love your show. Take care. P.S. Don't show my name please. Thanks for listening.
