Eat Greens to Reduce Diabetes Risk
What is the problem and what is known about it so far?
More and more people are getting type 2 diabetes. It is therefore important to learn more about the risk factors for the disease—especially those that can be improved through lifestyle changes. How healthy a person’s diet is can affect their chances of getting diabetes. Most research so far has focused on how much carbohydrate and fiber a person should consume to reduce their risk. Less is known about the roles of fruits and vegetables. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables has been linked to reducing the risks of cancer and heart disease. Although diabetes is strongly linked to heart disease and shares many of its risk factors, it is not yet known whether eating more fruits and vegetables can lower a person’s chances of getting diabetes.
