Egg Recall May Expand Further
Egg Recall Reaches 500 Million Eggs and May Keep Growing
The Egg recall has expanded to reach half a billion eggs in the US. Consumers are apparently wary about purchasing eggs from supermarkets, as farmers markets are reporting egg sales that are more brisk than usual.
Foodsafety.gov: Find Out if Your Eggs Have Been Recalled
The FDA's site, foodsafety.gov, has a list of recalled package numbers. Check to see if your eggs are on the list.
Margaret Hamburg, head of the US FDA, said, "We may see some additional recalls over the next couple days, even weeks, as we better understand the network of distribution of these eggs contaminated."
Hamburg added that US officials were "continuing to investigate aggressively to determine the exact source of the contamination as we move forward with the recall."
There are no known salmonella deaths due to the eggs, but health officials said the outbreak has sickened hundreds of people across the United States.
Hamburg went on to say that the FDA still doesn't know how the salmonella outbreak occurred, or if other products may be affected.
