Tobacco use is the single largest cause of preventable death worldwide, contributing to 5.4 million deaths from heart disease, stroke and other disease annually.

world health organisation warned against the use of electronic cigarettes , saying that there is no evidence to prove theywere safe or helped smokers break the habit.. this product is first made in china and nowadays hugely popular in countries like Brazil, Britain, Isreal, Canada.

A typical electronic cigarette is made of metal tube with a chamber which holds liquid nicotine in a rechargeable cartridge. Users puff on it but do not light it, leading some to use it to evade smoking bans in public places, according to the WHO.

However, they inhale a fine mist of nicotine into their lungs, "plus potentially many other toxic compounds which we are not sure of", said to Douglas Bettcher, acting director of the WHO's Tobacco Free Initiative.

"The World Health Organization knows of absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever that would confirm that the electronic cigarette is a safe and effective smoking cessation device," Bettcher told a news briefing.

"Toxicological tests and clinical trials have not been performed on this product," he said.

Most distributors have never made claims that Electronic Cigarette have been tested and approved as a smoking cessation device. The fact is these products are successfully being used as a smoking alternative. Various toxicological studies of the electronic cigarettes have been conducted, with some concluding that electronic cigarettes are less harmful than traditional tobacco cigarettes, because they can deliver nicotine into the lungs without the carcinogens and toxicants.

And there has also been a clinical study done in New Zealand that finished in August.  We are just waiting for the data to be released.  Curious the WHO does not mention this at all.

Mike - e cigarette
Hey guys.  These are really cool devices... I have actually have one myself... but when I puff on my device, the tip actually lights up blue.  So it is easier to get away with it at places where they ban smoking.  I think I can get use to smoking my e- cig.  Anyways these smoking devices are healthier than regular cigs, because you are taking in water vapor.  And they are great conversation starters at clubs and bars.

If someone really cared about saving life's they would do tests on e-cigarettes here in the USA. All of my customers have cut back or quit smoking tobacco. If only someone with the money could make e-cigs legitimate aids to reduce smoking in the USA.

The WHO also said that they did not discount the possibility that e-cigarettes could help people stop smoking, just that it hadn't been proven. One of their concerns was the delivery of nicotine via the lungs. However, Dr Laugeson, who has been inolved in New Zealand research, believes that the nicotine is in fact absorbed in the upper airways.

Has anyone ever thought to ask the FDA to run those same tests that they ran against a Nicotrol inhaler with the ecig against a regular cigarette?  The NZ study showed the ecigarette magnitudes safer than traditional tobacco cigarettes.

I have read the FDAs B*llsh*t about no proof that a smoker will quit smoking regular cigarettes... hey!! I am over here.. Formerly two packs a day.. now NONE!!!

I know that President Obama said that this generation would have to suffer the economy and that his changes were for generations to come but I didn't know that applied to the life and health of MILLIONS of Americans that can be helped by a safer alternative. Reminds me of an episode of Star Trek where the old people were sent to death after their usefullness..  Guess the FDA is heating up the gas chambers for us smokers instead of offering a safer alternative. Scooting over to make room for the POTUS since he is also a member of the lower class.
