Elizabeth Adeney will soon become the oldest woman ever to give birth in the UK; she is 66 years old.  Adney will replace the previous record holder Patricia Rashbrook who gave birth in 2006 at the age of 62 (almost 63).  Patricia Rashbrook is happy to give up her Oldest Woman to give Birth in the UK title to Elizabeth Adney; she is Adeney's attending physician.

Like her physician-mentor Patricia Rashbrook, Elizabeth Adney will have a baby boy.  Baby-boy Adney is due in June 2009.  Adney has been put in the spotlight in Britian after the news of her pregnancy broke.  Elizabeth Adney, who makes her home in Lidgate, Suffolk, is used to a quiet life but that has changed.  Adney has been both criticised and lauded for her decision to become a single mom after going through a difficult divorce.

Ms. Adeney has a supporter in her own physician, Dr. Patricia Rashbrook, who had a son through in vitro at the age of 63. Elizabeth will beat Rashbrook’s age by four years, and when her child has her 20th birthday, Adeney will be turning 87 shortly after.

This single mum is fully capable of supporting her child. She has a $910,000 (USD) home, a full-time live-in nanny and a deep desire for a child. Said to be one “feisty” woman, she was a debutante and an airline hostess. Elizabeth married Robert Adeney but the union was short lived.

66 year old British Woman Elizabeth Adeney to have a baby

Elizabeth Adney had to go to the Ukraine to become pregnant; fertility treatment centers in the UK do not treat women over 50.  The soon to be single mom, and successful single business woman, decided last year that she wanted a baby to make her life complete and did everything within her power to conceive.  Barring early labor Adney will give birth sometime in June 2009; she is 8 months pregnant.

The oldest woman in the world to have a baby is from India. Omkari Panwar was 70 years old when she gave birth to fraternal twins, one girl and one boy, born prematurely in July of 2008.  Her husband, Charan Singh Panwar, 77 at the time, was totally supportive of the decision to have children at such an advanced age.

A friend of Adeney told the Daily Mail she was still working a five-day week, in perfect health and looking forward to what is thought to be her first child. Adeney, a divorcee from Lidgate near Newmarket, Suffolk, runs her own textile company. She had been desperate to conceive for years, the unnamed friend said.

Most British clinics will not treat women over 50 and most NHS primary care trusts do not consider anyone over 40.

Adeney travelled to a Ukrainian clinic last year. "She was desperate for a child. She was over the moon when she learned last year that she was pregnant and has been quite open about it. It's not the sort of thing she can hide," the friend said.

"Elizabeth has had a pretty good pregnancy. She has been very well, considering her age. I'm amazed how she keeps going.

Elizabeth Adeney will turn 67 less than a month after her June due date and there is some controversy around whether she is to become only The Oldest Woman in the UK to Give Birth or if she may actually be the oldest woman in the world to have a baby.

The previously reported oldest woman in the world to give birth Omkari Panwar is under dispute after Panwar was unable to produce a birth certificate to prove her age.  If Panwar is disregarded as unverifiable Elizabeth Adeney would be in a tie for the Oldest Mom title with Carmen Bousada of Spain.

What a great thing, Oh mercifull God, the same God in the days of Sarah is repeating him self, in out day.

I believe the Uk Goverment should reconsider their law over not treating of women above 50 yrs giving them proper medicament, why is such laws ???? is it bcoz  it has never happend to any of the legislators family or relatives thats why they never did any thing to save poor women of 50 yrs???

I hope if this could happen to Tony blair family or in queens family they will quickly reconsider it if not they will fly the person out of the country for proper medicatemt....

So wht if it happen that the woman family does not have money how do they do to save the poor woman?????

pls let get down to the table refusing traetmet of above 50yrs, they are once tenegees so if we should neglect them let start while tenegger to abandon them..

thx and God help us all Amen...

Dear public,

If you want this to go public no problem; our scientific team at Milk and Honey Schools have the cure from the Manufacturer of the human body to restore every cell, organ and tissue just as a baby. Every disease (old age) is governed by a law. A woman can conceive at any age and obtain immortality as long as Manufacturer of the human body health laws are obeyed. Meet this woman who had children when they were five hundred years old. The longest liver live to be 969 yesars old. Women were made to have children at any age, so long as she ate from the tree of life. Thanks for the opportunity.

Karen McLish.

You are as crazy as she is! People need to stop putting God in things he is not in. Sarah was natural conception, not fertility drugs. People back then lived well over 100 yrs old, that does not happen now. Where does the baby go when she keels over before the child is even a teen??

WHO DO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE THINK THEY ARE TO SIT IN JUDGEMENT OF THIS WOMAN, I KNOW OF MANY "YOUNG MOTHERS THAT ARE NOT FIT TO BE MOTHERS, MY FATHER IS 68 YEARS OLD AND DOES MORE WITH HIS GRANDSONS THEN MANY FATHERS. HE PLAYS FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL WITH THEM, TAKES THEM TO ALL OF THEIR GAMES AND EVEN COACHES A LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM. SHAME ON YOU AND ANY ONE ELSE THAT THINKS AGE IS WHAT MAKES A GOOD PARENT.

Let's see if your 68-year-old father is still playing ball with his grandchildren when he is 85.  If he dies before then, the children's parents will probably still be living.

Chances are good that this lady will be dead, or very frail before her son is grown.  Since there is no father, who will finish raising him?  I doubt there would be grandparents living.  Aunts or uncles?  How old would they be?  Roughly the same age is mom, probably.

no body has the right to critisize this lady whether she is old or young, afterall there is still freedom of expression on planet earth. talking about being dead or alive to take care of the child, what about those whose children die before them? it is only God Almighty that takes care of people and keep them alive!people still fulfill their purpose and destiny on earth even after growing up from the motherless baby's homes.instead of critisizing her, let's thank God for her life and pray for the baby's survival because that baby is a child of great destiny. congratulations woman. God be with you.

I totally agree with you, age shouldn't matter!

The people on this website, a lot of them feel ashamed because their parents are older!

My father is 64 now and he always plays with his grandchildren! He was 42 when he had me, my mom was 28! They both worked FULL time jobs to support up, and raised 4 children! I was the youngest!

The testimonial arguments made here for this 60-something mother are from people with older fathers.  Interestingly enough, the mothers of these user-comments had them at decently young ages.  There is a huge difference between an older father and an older mother.  Perhaps when it comes to the mother, age shouldn't matter.  But, poor child who is missing out on having a parent young enough to understand him/her and possibly could raise the child in a way that would enable the best possible growth.  A younger mother could have many years for a relationship with her child, but a mother in her 60's has a possibly good 20 years; by the time the kid is in a university, he is already concerned about the mother's health and needs to care for her.  She might not be there for the wedding and certainly won't be able to be a grandmother to the grandchildren.

A woman having a child at an old age does it for selfish reasons, not for the best possible scenario for her child.  Also, the reasons given for her rights to mother a child are primarily on the basis of young mothers being irresponsible and unwanting of the child.  This deals with character flaw, and does not justify old parenting age.  There are plenty of excellent young parents!

A person being ALIVE makes a good parent!  Not one that won't be there for the child to grow up.  That's a great thing your father is doing.  Totally different story!  He is not the only person in the child's life.  You hopefully love your kids.  I'm sure you think of them first.  Would you want your child to live without you and be totally heartbroken because you died?  Even if the woman lives to be 85, should the child have to be alone?  Think of what's best for the child....

What is your father doing the rest of the time??? Working a full time job? taking care of the kids at home, at night and during the day and on the week-end? Helping with homework at night? or going to his house and sleeping? Parenting is not the same as grand-parenting?

whatever whatever

It is not a question of being a fit mother.  It is about being alive to see the job through.  It's great that your dad does such a great job at 68.  My guess is that he will be able to do less at 78.   My point is that this woman may not be able keep up at a time when her job is not yet done.  It's selfish, she should get a dozen cats.

It's not that an older person will not make a good parent, that is not the issue, the issue is that 1) at and older age, the parent is more likely to die while the child is still young. 2) it's a statisctical fact that people who are born to older parents are a lot more likely to die young. 3) If the older parent starts to show normal symptoms of old age (such as alzeimers-forgetting people/events/just about everything) that could be very hard on the child if they are still very young when it starts to happen, could you imagine being a small child and your mother doesn't know who you are?

0
Nikii

It is not a normal symptom of old age to go through Alzeimers!  This is a stereotype and needs to stop.  Yes things slow down, but alzeimers and major memory loss is not the norm.  You know what I can imagine worse? That a healthy young mom doesn't know who you are let alone care enough.

shame on you ? just like you Angel I happen to have an opinion, where does shame come in here.

I would have to agree with you on your statement. Does this women may die trying to have the babies? And the babies could die in birth. Why isn't the doctor being looked into? This doctor is about stupid like this women is. Did this women have mental eval. done before she went through with this? I guess it's about breaking records. That is sad wanting to break records like this. The doctor and this women is sick by all means. I guess UK get to support these babies for life. Jazzyazzy i agree with you i ca not get my head around this one.

I feel that as long as she is healthy who are we (you and others) to tell this woman that she can't have a baby.  You're probably one the ones who are pro-life so stop being a hypocrite and let the woman enjoy the blessing of carring and delivering her first born.  God Bless her and her unborn child.

0
EternalUnrest

no, actually. just think if (god forbid) that she dies; who will take care of the baby? she should've had one earlier and then we wouldn't be going through this.

You are calling the Dr stupid, you probably don't even have a college degree. You are the stupid ass.

Yes these are very good questions.  Now stop making assumptions on what went on since you don't know.  You may never know because those are personal information.

If this woman wants to spend her money to have a baby at her advanced age, I think that should be her decision.  We don't condemn men who father a child in their advanced years.  There usually is some smirking and congratulations going on.  Health care budgets are already overtaxed.  The public shouldn't be asked to pay for these medical choices.

I agree regarding if a woman wants to spend her money to have a child, it should be her decision.  Did any of the follow "men" get critized for reproducing when they were older?

David Bowie          age 53

Mick Jagger          age 57

Rupert Murdoch   age 72

Michael Douglas   age 60

Rod Stewart         age 60

Paul McCartney   age 61

Charlie Chaplin     age 73

Anthony Quinn      age 81

Pablo Picasso      age 68

Larry King          age 66

The list goes on and on for older males....soon there will be a longer list for females also...do I think that I should have to pay for the conception process?  Of course not...

Tina Kells

Excellent point! She is a successful business woman and is able to afford good medical care. She will be able to provide a great life for her child and I think it is admirable.

If she dies at 80, the kid will be twelve.  I guess he can then raise himself (no dad, no grandparents) with the piles of money she will leave him.

6
Tina Kells

This is never an issue when the "old" parent is a man even though statistically speaking, men die sooner than their female peers.

I guess that is because when older men father a child it is usually with a much younger woman who will, presumably, live long enough to be a single mother to his child? Is that the logic?

Maybe Elizabeth Adeney will do as her male counterparts who have children at later stages in life and find a much younger man to act as father.

It really is time for the double standards to end.
