Experts want more govt help to combat HIV/AIDS in Pakistan

Marking the Global HIV/AIDS Day on Monday, patients and activists asked the Pakistan government to tackle the menace head-on because the socio-economic situation of the country, according to them, provided the ideal breeding ground for AIDS.

The socio-economic situation of Pakistan provides the ideal breeding ground for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and the government needs to tackle the menace head-on, patients and activists here said on Monday, marked worldwide as Global HIV/AIDS Day.

The experts said the factors that contributed to the spread of AIDS, including fear of stigma; unsafe blood transfusion measures; safe incineration of hospital waste; checks and balances on the business of prostitution; and lack of awareness could be observed throughout the country.
