If the Cause is worthy, they will come. So when former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr perform onstage together for probably the last time - for free - you can be sure that the cause is a great one. And so we may now add Director David Lynch to the list of the select few people in the world with a Cause that the surviving Beatles just had to support.

The Change Begins Within” benefit for the David Lynch Foundation, was held in New York at the Radio City Music Hall and filmed for a future special. Aside from the 'Fab Two, the star-studded lineup of performers supporting the Cause included Sheryl Crow, Eddie Vedder, Donovan Leitch, Mike Love of The Beach Boys and Bettye LaVette with Moby.

Seated in the audience were an equally star-studded crowd of supporters, like Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison (George's widow), David Arquette, Michael J. Fox, Matthew Broderick, Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston.

All this reunion and jamming had at its roots the 1968 trip that The Beatles, Mia Farrow, Mike Love, Donovan and others took to Rishikesh, India where they learned Transcendental Meditation at the feet of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. That trip was to have a groundbreaking effect on the music and lives of The Beatles, especially George who then embarked on Sitar-playing and Krishna-Consciousness. And those lessons learned have transformed many lives worldwide including that of David Lynch, who has had a profound influence on the lives of underprivileged children with his Foundation that promotes his T.M.-based philosophy and approach to life. David is the founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, and is an award-winning director, writer, and producer. His work includes Eraserhead, Elephant Man, Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire.

As at most benefit concerts, music was interspersed with proselytizing: testimonials and video clips about the benefits of meditation. There was an undeclared contest over who had been meditating longest: 37 years for the comedian Jerry Seinfeld (who did bits about movie theaters, public toilets, taxis and marriage), 38 years for the radio personality Howard Stern, 41 for the two Beatles and — the winner — 43 years for the flutist Paul Horn, who also made the 1968 visit to Rishikesh. That trip ended in acrimony, but the surviving Beatles held on to the mantras the Maharishi gave them and said they continued to use them.

The concert video should be awesome and a Collector's Edition not only for Music fans but for those who have an interest in Transcendental Meditation.
