Facial Symmetry Link To Healthy Ageing

Scottish researchers have found that men with symmetrical faces are less likely to develop dementia at an old age. Dr. Lars Penke, who lead the study, said that having a symmetrical face might be linked to an overall better physical condition, which also included mental ageing. The tests were carried out on men and women, but the benefits were only visible in the men.

Women may not show the same association because of genetic differences or the fact that they live four years longer than men on average, the scientists believe. Mental functions decline especially rapidly in the last four years before death.

The Scottish team compared reaction times and reasoning abilities with face symmetry in 216 men and women. The research was initiated in 1932.

This is a good story, as long as, and I mean importantly as long as it does not make our society more vain.  What's interesting too here, is, as a woman, that I did not there was a difference in mens and womens' faces as they age.
