FDA Crackdown on Electronic Cigarettes Gets Personal

A recent leaked email from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reveals plans to crackdown on the electronic cigarette suppliers.
In an ominous note, things seem to be getting personal as the email mentions that a hidden factor in the attack is the recent action by an electronic supplier to sue the FDA:
"Other background, hidden factors: Action involves three largest distributors. One of the distributors has just sued FDA seeking a restraining order to prevent us from holding their product at the border."
The supplier in question is Smoking Everywhere. According to Legal Times, the supplier has recently sued the FDA, accusing the regulatory body of illegally witholding their goods.
The proposed crackdown has already prompted a response from Tobacco Harm Reduction experts, who believe that the electronic cigarette is a healthy alternative to regular cigarettes.
"As best we can tell, on the basis of currently available research data, these products promise a risk of illness and death well under 1% of the risk posed by cigarettes," Dr Joel Nitzkin, Chair of the Tobacco Control Task Force for the American Association of Public Health Physicians, argues.
William Godshaw, of Smokefree Pensylvania agrees. "It is absurd for the FDA to even contemplate protecting the deadliest nicotine products (cigarettes) from market competition by the least hazardous nicotine products."

I just don't get it. We have a product that the smoking public needs.
Much better than any other cigarettes on the market.
Cigarettes are not FDA approved, Why do e-cigs need to be.
The FDA screwes up alot themselfs. Wasn't that peanut butter
those 475 plus people got Salmonella typhimurium from
months ago aproved by the FDA? WHY YES IT WAS.
The FDA is a joke. They are bought and paid for by who ever has the
most cash. Here are some examples.
# 1 FDA "experts" will decide what's a drug or medical device.
Under these proposed guidelines, FDA "experts" (the same
corrupt officials who reapproved
Vioxx after
it killed over 50,000 Americans)
# 2 WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE !!!
Things that will be regulated out of
existence.. FROM THE ALMIGHTY ( FDA )
It is very clear that the FDA is intending to regulate and
ultimately destroy the entire CAM industry (Complementary and Alternative
Medicine). Based on the explanations in the FDA's own document, the following
things are likely to occur:
- All vitamins, nutritional supplements and
functional foods will be stripped of their structure & function claims,
reducing them to empty labels where virtually nothing at all is allowed to
be stated.
- Vegetable juice will be regulated as a drug. Raw
juice retreats will be raided or shut down.
- Growing and selling common garden herbs will get you
arrested as a drug dealer.
- Massage oils and handheld massagers will be regulated
as "medical devices."
- Yoga props, pilates machines and weight machines will
be regulated as "medical devices" and require FDA approval before being sold
or used.
- Raw sprouts and other
anti-cancer foods
will be regulated as drugs.
- Bottled water that "treats" dehydration will be
regulated as a drug.
- Massage therapists who use hot rocks as part of their
therapy will have the ROCKS regulated as medical devices! (It's true. The
FDA will actually look at a pile of rocks and declare, "Those are medical
devices!")
- Functional foods, supplements, vitamins and
homeopathic remedies will disappear from store shelves, pending FDA
"review." (The only things remaining will be processed junk foods and
pharmaceuticals, which is exactly what Big Business wants.)
- Therapeutic tea products, such as green tea, will be
outlawed and confiscated.
- Vitamin store owners will be arrested and prosecuted
for "practicing medicine without a license."
- Citizens owning personal inventories of "unapproved
drugs" (vitamins and herbs) may have their homes raided at gunpoint and
their inventories confiscated by armed law enforcement agents.
- The importation of herbs and functional foods from
all countries may be banned.
Keep in mind that the FDA is the same agency that:
- Wants to label irradiated foods as
"pasteurized."
- Voted to put the deadly drug Vioxx back on the market
after tens of thousands of deaths, even after its own manufacurer pulled it
from pharmacies.
- Raided a church at gunpoint, confiscating biofeedback
machines and charging that they were "practicing medicine" by counseling
church members on issues like depression.
- Openly allows corrupt, "on the take" experts to vote
on new drug approvals, even when those experts are taking money from the
same companies impacted by their votes.
- Refuses to legalize
stevia, the safe,
natural herbal sweetener that's used virtually everywhere else in the world.
The agenda? Protect the profits of aspartame and other chemical sweeteners.
- Openly allows the mass poisoning of the public with
cancer-causing food
additives such as sodium nitrite.
- Refuses to enforce its own laws regarding unsafe
chemical toxins in personal care products, allowing perfume and lotion
companies to continue poisoning the public with cancer-causing chemicals
that don't even have to be listed on the label, nor proven safe.
THE FDA NEEDS TO BE STOPPED TODAY.
THEY ARE AN OUT OF CONTROL GROUP, with CONTROL.

Folks.. what no one seems to realize is its ALL ABOUT CONTROL.
They don't care if we die from smoking.. they just want more control.
You have a product that is WAY better for you than smoking.. and yet big brother wants to ban it.. hmm wonder why..
Some day people will wake up and realize that its NOT about health, its all about control and making YOU personally miserable.
And to think.. people want to put these idiots in control of our HEALTH CARE? Are they nuts?

This is sad, however certainly expected. The FDA will probably get their hands into this but the big player in my opinion pushing all this TO the FDA is obviously "Big Tobacco"
In the countries that have banned the electronic cigarette say 1 of 3 things to support their reasoning
1- obvious double digit Billions in Cigarette Tax they sure don't want to lose
2- They say well, Nicotine is addictive (really???)
3. Nicotine is Toxic... ( what Under your counters at home isnt? )
So looks like its back to CIgarette Tax! Thats the real story....
Where would they get that money they lose in taxes if we all quit smoking? WOW how about us paying insurance premiums to pay for zillions of people who have cancer, heart problems, or many other illnesses due to smoking, that would be a good start.
I have been smoking the electric cigarette for over 2 months now and havent smoked a real cigarette since the day I opened the box. It is a truely amazing product! I feel 100% better, no more cleaning smoke off things in your home, and your teeth, it's just great!
If I'm not mistaken, our new president is a smoker, SOMEONE please send him an elec. cigarette! hehe

I could'nt agree with you more. It is a shame that it is all about the money and not our health. I wish someone would send the president an e-cig. Might be interesting for sure. I love the e-cig. I have not used tobacco products in over two months myself. This is a wonderfun

I'm not sure what the real reason is behind the FDA actions, but I am suspicious. In fact. with a four hundred billion dollar industry at risk, it would be suprising if a little upstart product was allowed to get very far in challenging it.
The truth of human nature is that when morals and lives comes into conflict with serious money, the serious money normally wins out.

This is so funny because this exact corruption is what is causing this entire recession... America is filled with payoffs and bribes and blackmail and nepotism... If you know this person you can rub him the right way to get this.... It is funny because the orders start at the top and by the time it is sent down to the guy who takes action no one knows who got paid what or if this is right or what and everything is just corrupt. FDA MADOFF INC. Well, since people won't change quickly, and corruption is still lurking, looks lioke we might make it to depression before things change the way Obama wants them to go.

We pay 8$ out of the 10$ they ask for a pack of cigarettes in taxes......

The FDA's pretty funny. For some reason they ban something that is much less harmful than regular cigarettes are.
Wanting control is right. If you've got a big corporation (in this case, the big tobacco companies) with lots of money, you can lobby the government to pass rules and regulations that suit what you want. Corporatism, not capitalism, at its finest.

The government and the snobbish puritans in society are HYPOCRITS! They speak out of both sides of their mouths. They condemn and treat tobacco smokers like drug addicts, stating how bad real tobacco is (which it is, and I do not dispute), but then turn around, and say ban e-cigs, which has already proven to get thousands of tobacco smokers off of tobacco. NOTHING is 100% safe, but e-cigarettes are much more safer than real tobacco. Drinking caffeine has already been proven to be more damaging. And what is next? Going after all people ten pounds over weight, because it is unhealthy? If the government really cared about the health of its citizens, it would have long ago banned real tobacco and tobacco farms years ago. Here is the TRUTH: The government wants smokers to keep smoking, in order to reel in the billions of dollars in taxes annually that smokers pay for their habit. The pharmaceutical companies want control and money for their nicotine products (nicorette gum, patches, etc.). They don't want the e-cig sold by independent distributors and manufacturers, because it takes away from their profits. The pharma companies long ago spent billions of dollars on research to PROVE that nicotine, although considered a drug, is not cancer causing, in order to produce and sell their very expensive nic patches gum, etc. The only time nicotine can be dangerous, even fatal, is if consumed in high quantities in liquid form. Otherwise, if it were dangerous, nic patches and gum would not be allowed for sale over the counter as it is today. If they were worried that minors and people who don't smoke were more likely to consume nicotine via the e-cig, then they would never allow nicotine gum and patches be sold over the counter. LIES, LIES, LIES! Furthermore, upon research, one will find that many U.S. senators and powers to be, hold stock in many tobacco companies. So the truth is, they care nothing about your health, and would prefer you remain smoking the real dangerous product called tobacco, while at the same time, bitch at you for smoking, and even remove health care coverage from you, should you become sick due to smoking the real tobacco. TIME FOR A VERBAL REVOLUTION! TIME TO STOP THE GOVT. AND THE NON-SMOKING FANATICS FROM INTRUDING ON OUR PRIVATE LIVES! For the record, my husband no longer has a raspy voice since vaping e-cigs, or a cough, since quitting tobacco. MANY, even thousands of e-cig customers are testifying to how well they feel since giving up tobacco, while now vaping e-cigs. BUT THAT DOESN'T SEEM PROOF ENOUGH????!!! NOTHING HAS WORKED FOR MANY TOBACCO SMOKERS, UNTIL THE E-CIG WAS INVENTED! PATCHES, GUM, NOTHING!!! but the e-cig works. About time smokers (even tobacco smokers) started getting aggressive (in voice) to fight for their rights too! After all, the smokers have paid billions of dollars in taxes to help keep this country running, moreso, then the non-smokers have!

I have one thing to say about the FDA. This product like certain medications will be kept on hold for one main reason. It financially hurts the major tobacco producers and drug companies in the US.

If electronic cigarettes are banned I will smoke them anyway. I will order them from a UK website and smoke them anyway. The FDA needs to be dismembered, disolved and rendered noexistent. This is government sticking their noses into the private lives of its citizens. It is corruption at it's very worst: choosing profit over life. It is unAmerican and one more step toward anything but a free society. We need to rebel in a very big way.

E-cigarettes are still not perfect product, how long it will take to come to an higher level depends about market in USA. Therefore I hope the e-cigarettes will not be baned in the USA.

2,PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES ARE TERRIFIED OF AMBITIOUS MARKETING COMPANIES WRECKING THE USELESS NICOTINE PATCH AND GUM BUSINESS THAT AT PRESENT IS THE ONLY LEGAL ALTERNATIVE.
