FDA Slams Diet Coke Plus for Misleading Label
The FDA has noted that the Coca-Cola product Diet Coke Plus has a misleading nutritional label, saying that the soft drink does not meet the standards for the word "plus," which implies that the drink has additional nutritional value.
Diet Coke Plus, the FDA wrote in a letter to Coke officials is “misbranded … because the product makes a nutrient content claim but does not meet the criteria to make the claim.”
The drink contains added vitamins and nutrients, including 15 percent of the FDA-recommended daily allowance of vitamin B12 and 10 percent of magnesium.
Roberta Wagner, director of the office of compliance at the Center of Food Safety and Applied Nutrition wrote in the letter the FDA does not consider it “appropriate to fortify snack foods such as carbonated beverages.”
FDA goes on to say that the world’s largest beverage maker should “take prompt action to correct these violations.”
A Coke spokesman says that the FDA's concerns do not involve any health or safety issues, and they maintain that the label on Diet Coke Plus complies with federal regulations.

Now, if Coke had added melamine, there would have been no problem. After spending the year dropping the ball right and left, the feds take a stance on this? Good lord.

No kidding! Give them a week, they'll reverse their position and accept that Diet Coke Plus does in fact have nutritional value.

I've tried Diet Coke Plus and it tastes terrible. I think I'll stick with good old Coke Zero.

I don't drink the stuff, but don't you think the FDA has better things to do than hassle the junk food people. Everybody already knows its junk.
