Four new Polio cases in FATA- Pakistan

  Health workers in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Pakistan said they have discovered four new cases of polio victims in Swat and Bajaur where ongoing unrest has prevented vaccination.
  
Swat

                        

 

The eight-month-old victim is the cousin of another baby girl who was the first in the area to be discovered with the crippling P1 polio virus, they said.

"I can confirm the second P1 polio case in Swat," Waheed Khan, deputy director of the immunization programme, told media.

Bajaur 

Two cases were identified in Bajaur Agency. According to private medical worker both are boys one is in Mamound area in the village of Taliban central leader Muvi Umer. And the other is in a remote village in salarzi are North West of Bajaur. With the discovery of these two children number of polio victims has been reached to 71. 

Many doctors an paramedical staff have been killed by the Islamic extremist during polio campaigns.

In tribal areas religious leaders banned polio vaccination and termed it against Islam and the ideology of Pakistan.
