Freedom of Religion and Christian Totalitarianism
I was talking to a hard-core Christian family, and they were talking a lot about religious freedom. Then I asked them about other religions, and they said that they can't afford to tolerate other religions because other religions are against Christianity.
Uh-oh. So you appropriate religious freedom for yourselves, then you fail to extend religious freedom to other people.
What this means is that these people are abusing the freedom of religion clause present in democratic governments to impose a religious totalitarianism. They avail themselves of the freedom of religion that's present in democratic covenants; then they attack everyone else's right to a freedom of religion. What we are seeing therefore is a ploy to subvert constitutional democracy and impose a Christian totalitarianism.
People deserve to know about this, and they deserve to do what the situation requires. And that is: Preserve constitutional democracy and avert Western countries going the way of medieval Europe or contemporary Iran.
When aggressive Christians go around talking about the freedom of religion, they only mean their own freedom of religion, and they are dead-set against anyone else's. Which means that they are abusing the freedom of religion clause in democracy and seek to impose Christian totalitarianism.

again, juicy topic. as I remember, when Karl Marx , philosopher from the german jewish family, who later converted to lutheran faith said, that religion {especially Christianity} is an opiate or a drug, he was propably right. Marx was atheist at this time. yet we cannot forget positive impact that religions had on the history of mankind. positive and creative.....

I will continue... christianity like other religions {maybe little more than other religions} offers love- in both very spiritual and also artistic way. so many religious songs, sculptures, paintings etc.. are propably not found in any other religion. Yet of course, people {even moderate Christians} are not always sure, if God loves them. Christianity I believe, unlike other religions offers mercy and salvation for everybody- all races, all social levels. christians often times even adopt orphans. The position , that you mentioned in the first paragraph is not typical for majority of Christians and its wrong. any christian should be friendly and nice toward people of different faith. He can persuade them to become christians but carefully and without any prejudice. I do not go to church much, so this is my opinion as a citizen.

Yes Matt, I have nothing against people who practice Christianity in the way that you advocate. The problem is the people who want to have religious freedom to be Christian but would not allow other people religious freedom to be anything else. Many of the positive aspects you speak of exist also in other faiths such as Buddhism, Hinduism and paganism. Once again, nothing wrong with being a Christian; everything wrong with forcing others to be Christians as well.
