The Gardener

Following a traffic diversion, I discovered this man's garden by accident last year. You can see the result of 30 years of his TLC in my photostream (Kitschgarden).
For some people it's a dream garden (isn't it Brian ?), for others a nightmare to wake up from (Sean ? Where are you ?). When I walked up to him to ask him permission to photograph his garden, he was picking up the hedge clippings. He was charmed I did so, because most people did so without bothering to ask,or have a chat with the owner. He told me he had had a stroke some time before.
When his wife showed up she asked in a matter of fact way : "someone to take photos dear ?",in the same way she would have asked if the mailman had already passed by. Their garden has been an item on five TV-shows, so I suppose you get used to the attention.
After having taken the photos, he asked me if I didn't want a photo of the gardener. I was so disarmed, because I hadn't thought about it and it was so obvious to do so, that I agreed sheepishly.
