NP Rank:
Great Sex vs. Good Sleep?
A good night's sleep is much better than great sex - except to Canadians, according to a global sleep study conducted by Westin Hotels and Resorts.
The survey asked 12,500 frequent travelers of ten countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the U.S., and the United Arab Emirates. The result showed that on average, 51 per cent of respondents put sleep at the top of their priority list when checking into a hotel, followed by a good restaurant and shower, at 16 per cent each. Ten years ago, Westin conducted a similar survey, and the result at that time showed that only 31 per cent chose sleep over sex, a much lower figure than the current one.
52 per cent of Asian respondents felt that a great night of sleep was more important than great sex, and only 48 per cent of Canadians felt that way.
"Either we have different customs or we were more truthful than others in answering the question," says Jean-Luc Barone, general manager of the Westin Bayshore Vancouver.
The survey also found that 26 per cent of hotel guests sleep in pyjamas, while 23 per cent sleep completely nude. The other 51 percent remains a mystery.
In the survey, 21 per cent said that the biggest worry that was keeping them up at night were things like bills or mortgage payments, 20 per cent said that problems with their spouse or partner kept them awake and 18 per cent said work related stress prevented them from getting a good night's sleep.
