GENEVA (Reuters) - The H1N1 swine flu virus has picked up steam in the northern hemisphere and is expected to cause more serious infections and deaths as cold weather sets in, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday.
Fortunately the H1N1 virus has not mutated thus allowing the vaccine to be much more effective.
The European Center for Disease Prevention reports 500,000 cases of acute respiratory illness and 86 related deaths.
Antiviral drugs are shown to have great results in fighting H1N1 to this point. No significant resistances to the H1N1 anti viral medications have been reported to date.
With winters imminent onset pregnant mothers are recommended to get the H1N1 vaccine.
The World Health Organization (WHO) stresses with winter’s onset vulnerable people need to urgently get the vaccine as soon as possible.

Some physicians here say that the H1N1 flu has already reached it's peak. With the delay in distribution of this vaccine and the two weeks it takes to be effective, that it will be already too late. Most will not get the vaccine until December in Canada.
