Health & Mental Health Alternatives
I don't believe that the old saying of a healthy body equals a healthy mind is always true but I am pretty confident that pretty much any unhealthy person would be less happy and healthy of mind than if they were healthy. How happy and healthy have you felt when sick?
I am not a nutritionist but as someone who has actively opposed the harm of psychiatric drugs upon children, the elderly and just about anyone else for the past 27 years, I have researched alternative health and mental health in order to assist those harmed in mental health settings who still had emotional issues to address. I also had to research to find how to use diet to handle my increasing weight problem and dangerously high cholesterol levels as I did not want to get stuck in the medication/side effects trap. After my research and diet change, everything went back to normal.
Recently, I ran across three cases that made me decide to write this article. Two of the cases included normal people who went extremely psychotic and ended up in mental institutions. In both cases, one male and one female, they were hallucinating badly, speaking gibberish and had no clue about what they were doing. Both were under threat of involuntary commitment. In both cases, pressure was given to get medical staff to do full medical work-ups to find any underlying medical or nutritional causes to their psychotic states. In both cases, the individuals were cured with diagnosing and handling a urinary tract infection.
In the other case, a college girl who went psychotic and got committed twice to psychiatric facilities was eventually treated outside the mental health facility by an alternative mental health practitioner who found some mineral deficiencies. These were properly addressed and the young lady is now doing fine.
If you are wondering if my point is that psychiatry doesn't perform the medical tests that should be done to address underlying causes of mental disorders in order to really cure people, you would be correct. If you are wondering if my point is also that many people, including children, with behavioral issues would be cured and not turned into permanent psychiatric patients with proper medical and nutritional treatment instead of dangerous, mind-altering, dependence-causing psychotropic drugs, you would also be correct. And, there's plenty of research to support this.
For example, in 2012, the British Medical Journal put out this study on how to check for the underlying medical and nutritional underpins to psychosis, yet it goes unused. For those of you interested in alternative help for yourself or someone you know, there's a large national data base of such practitioners at AlternativeMentalHealth.com . This is just a data base and list so you would have to call around to see what practitioner may or may not feel right for you.
Now, if underlying health and nutritional issues can make people psychotic, it certainly makes sense that they could cause lesser behavioral problems and even lesser happiness in life. One recent study links soda drinking in 5-year-olds to aggression and distraction which should be no surprise to any parent who watches their children go berserk on Sugar Frosted Flakes, candy or ice cream. I am far from an expert but you can some get some amazing expert data on health and nutrition websites like HealthRanger.org and Mercola.com among several other places that should help to keep yourself and family in better physical and mental well-being.
Most people are aware of some of the negative factors of sugar but what about the harm from artificial sweeteners, preservatives, mercury in vaccines, grains (especially wheat), carbonation in water, etc. What are the benefits of coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, drinking plenty (lots) of water, and much more? What about alternative sweeteners like stevia and alternative grains like quinoa, millet and spelt? What is the benefit of your body being alkaline instead of acidic and how can you do this?
All these answers and more are a Google search or a trip to your local natural health store away. My main purpose is to prevent people, especially children, from needlessly winding up in the mental health system but as a positive side-effect, I would like to see you and others have the data on how to live happier and healthier lives.
