A woman in Moscow weighing 550-pounds gave birth to a healthy 4.4 pound baby boy.

Doctors in Moscow gave themselves a pat on the back after delivering a healthy baby from a morbidly obese woman whose weight would normally preclude conception, the Australian Associated Press reports.

The birth was overseen by Moscow's chief gynaecologist due to the 550-pound weight of the 34-year-old first-time mom identified only as Nonna M.

The woman gave birth to a healthy boy weighing a modest 4.4 pounds after a 5-hour labor that was artificially induced by doctors.

Irina Osadcheva explained "The thing is that as a rule, women over 150 kilogrammes have such severe hormonal irregularities they simply can't get pregnant."

"It's really a striking case," said Irina Osadcheva, the deputy head of Moscow's Maternity Clinic Number 8, where the birth took place.

"The thing is that as a rule, women over 150 kilogrammes have such severe hormonal irregularities they simply can't get pregnant," she explained.

I am glad the boy is healthy, and no C-section was required!

Same here Sara Star. I think this mother is remarkable and it's great both she and her baby are doing well.

I feel the same way ladies. However, I hope that the mom will take better care of herself and also that the baby does not grow to be that big. Unfortunately it is unhealthy for both mother and Child.

Hopefully the baby will not grow as big as the mother.
