India attractive destination for health tourism: Study

Indian corporate hospitals are well equipped, proficient and could measure up to or even outshine any hospital in the West, making the nation an attractive destination for health tourism, a Planning Commission report released Wednesday said.

But the report said the main impediment for medical tourists coming from Britain and the US for major surgeries was that the insurance companies were not willing to cover treatment in India.

Thanks for  posting this story wunder! Would you ever go to India for medical care? I bet it would be quite expensive but if you get the best care then you can't really put a price on that. What do you think?

Many people who are uninsured or under insured are seeking other countries such as India in order to find affordable high quality care.  Another motivator for medical travel is to have procedures done that either aren't approved in the U.S. like <a href="http://www.worldmedassist.com/Total_Hip_Replacement_Surgery_India.htm">two-level cervical disk replacement</a> (whereas only single-level is approved in the US) or procedures that were just recently approved (like <a href="http://www.worldmedassist.com/Hip_Resurfacing_Surgery_India.htm">Hip Resurfacing</a> - approved in the US only in 2006) where US surgeons don't have anywhere near the experience of their counterparts in certain countries.
