Metro Police tell 24-Hour News 8 that an IMPD officer has been arrested in connection with an east side arson investigation. The officer has resigned from the force, the department says.

A press release from IMPD says 31-year-old Jesse Russell Jr. was arrested Friday and is facing two counts of arson with regards to a May 14 fire at the Lakeview Terrace apartments.

A police report documenting the incident says the fire, which was found in the apartment offices, caused $30,000 in damage.

IMPD say Russell had been with the force for only three years.

The police report says Metro Police, Indianapolis Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms all participated in the investigation, which they say is ongoing.

Officers have declined to supply a mug shot of Russell at this point, citing investigative reasons.
